Marvin dearest, your spirit is still sitting on my living room sofa
As we discuss how we are going to develop the Liberace musical...I remember your talk with Roger O. Hirson who did wind up writing us a terrific book and telling him the book needed
More "MILK"... you would be thrilled to know Liberace's struggle
as a Gay man in early Hollywood and Las Vegas is well represented in COURTROOM CARAMBA, and GEORGE, POUR
THE CHAMPAGNE...I know you would be thrilled to know the show is moving in the right direction! Had you been here, you would have written a brilliant Broadway score! We all miss you
So much, and you left us too soon!
Your music was you, and you were your music that will live on
Forever...

The world has lost a great, great talent, and a generous, warm, person. I knew him from having the honor of playing with him on many amazing concerts with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. "Mr. Hamlisch" was also my teacher at Juilliard for the American Musical Theater class. Even with all the music he had in his mind, and all the many people he has met and remembered - he managed to find space to always remember me!

It was "our brush with greatness" when my husband and I and our two daughters sat behind Marvin and his wife at a broadway show in NYC. They were so gracious, friendly and down to earth. We have bragged to family and friends about him and his lovely wife for years. We have followed his career and know his talents will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family during this difficult time. He was a wonderful man.

We have lost Marvin - the greatest contemporary oomposer, pianist, conductor and entertainer - now he is conducting the angels in "one singular sensation". His humor is often overlooked - I have a wonderful memory of him with Merv Griffin on his show playing the piano and trying to outdo each other. Marvin ended up playing while sitting on the floor! What a talent we have lost and Heaven has gained. Thank you for all the great moments and the way we all were hearing your music.

Since I was 10 years old, in 1973...I was a fan of Marvin Hamlisch.
Whether movie or radio-he did GREAT on his songs.
And one thing I'll ALWAYS remember when he asked the audience,"Hey people...give me a word-a phrase-EVEN a name...and I'll make a song out of it." And he MOST CERTAINLY DID!

marvin was a wonderful friend to me and to my wife polly draper, and our children nat wolff and alex wolff. i met marvin when he was a guest on the Arsenio Hall Show, where i was musical director. He came to me after the show and said i should be writing jingles and film and television scores, and he called his agent on the spot and set me up with a meeting and subsequent representation. Marvin went on to feature me as a jazz pianist with the Pittsburgh Symphony, and the National Symphony Orchestra. He and his wife Terre and my wife and I spent some wonderful times together. I've admired Marvin Hamlisch and his music for many years. I especially love "A Chorus Line"; to this day, hearing "One" thrills me like the first time I heard it. My late husband Tim and I saw him perform in Minneapolis. What a night that was. It was like having a very talented friend play piano in our own living room. And of course, through his music, Marvin became a friend to scores of people he never met. I cried when I read of his passing. Thank you Marvin Hamlisch for your contributions to music and the theater. You were, and are a mensch. Shalom, you dear man.
