In the passed few weeks, I have encountered new people that not only knew Walter, but met with him and had memorable experiences of his generosity of time and guidance - I was always amazed by Walter's energy and ability to influence so many of us.
His impact will live on, as well as many memories.
He was the truest of professionals and we will miss him.

My deepest condolences to Walter's family. Walter was an amazing man, and all of us are grateful for his impact and influence. I was fortunate enough to work with Walter briefly on a project that spanned the continent and engaged two Gensler offices. I suppose that was Walter at his best-the consummate bridge builder. Walter, thank you for setting the bar so high for the profession, and for what it means to be a Gensler Principal. May your legacy live on through all of us.

Walter, who was my undergraduate classmate at Yale and finished Yale School of Architecture a year ahead of me, was a positive force. As I finished a summer position in 1967 at Becket in San Francisco Walter appeared for an interview. I assured the head of that office that Walter was their man. He got the job, soon became head of design and, it seems, never looked back. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

I was fortunate enough to hear Walter speak many times through the gConnect program at Gensler in 2014, and when he offered the opportunity to meet with him one-on-one, I took him up on it. I greatly appreciated his dedication to mentoring and supporting the next generations even after he had retired. Walter, you will be missed, but your legacy will live on.

Deep condolences to the Hunt Family. Walter was one of my bosses at Gensler in the late 80's. Always generous and to the point. I learned a lot about business from Walter and repeated his lessons many times in my own business. Walter also encouraged me in my art career and always responded to my letters and announcements. I think of him often and am so sorry to hear of his passing. My best to the whole family.

This indeed is a sad day for me. Walter and I worked together at Welton Becket in the early 70's. He was an extraordinary boss. Later he opened the door for me at Gensler which lead to a huge leap in my professional growth. Walter was an amazing motivator, demanding and knew how to get the best out of people. He was also full to the brim with compassion and empathy. He and his wonderful partner Judy helped me through some difficult times in my life. He was the Best Man at my wedding and had a profound influence on my life as a professional but also a friend. I miss you my good friend...so sorry Judy, David, Chris, Steven, and all the members of this wonderful Hunt Family. Love Gary Fitschen and Ophelia Basgal

To Judy and the family of Walter Hunt,
I had the great fortune of having Walter as my mentor while working at Gensler's New York office when he first arrived. Boy, was he tough! Because of that experience I am better at everything I do. I am so very sad to hear of his passing. I will always remember him fondly. May his memory be a blessing to you all.
