I have only just heard of your passing Alan and feel sad. I used to enjoy your passion for behavioural psychology and, over the years, we had many talks about many things. You were such a lovely, kind gentleman. Thank you for your kindness and rest in peace. My condolences to your family and friends. Ruth Mortimer

Alan touched my life only briefly, but I will remember him always as a kind, generous, gentle man who cared. I came to Palmerston North from Australia in 2009 and would often run into Alan in the evening on his way to or from lecturing the first-year class. We'd trade stories about teaching first years and he'd ask how my' interns were going that's when he wasn't giving me a hard time about things Australian. His ready good humour was matched by his passion for ideas (on an astonishingly wide range of topics) and teaching students to think, igniting in them a love of learning, and challenging them to think. He wasn't just going through the motions' as a first-year lecturer, even after all those years, he was still passionate, enthusiastic, very able and a consummately modest teacher. A colleague to be remembered. May the road rise up to meet you Alan . . .

Prof Alan Winton...you were a master teacher for me in the early '80's as I tackled my first psych degree...I cannot think about behavioural analysis, reinforcement schedules, Skinner, Pavlov, operant conditioning etc etc., without remembering you and your passionate teaching style and acute attention to detail. You were also very kind and easy to approach, which was important for a younger than most undergrad student, from a small town, who was in awe of your brilliance! Rest in peace clever man....my condolences go out to your family at this time.

WINTON, Dr Alan Stuart William. Much loved brother of Marian Cameron and brother-in-law of Peter, cherished uncle of Bruce, Ian, Eileen and families. Valued cousin of Meryl, Ian, Peter and Ernie Claridge; Judith, Peter and Virginia Burrell; and Brenda Rogers. A gentle, caring man whose wise counsel and loving deeds live on in our hearts.
