Summer school holidays at Manly which I spent trailing you and your friends around as you explored the beach and surrounds. What a nuisance I must have been as a younger cousin to you and your teenage friends but you bore it all with patience typical of your sweet nature. So many happy memories of you Diana which will live with me for as long as I live. Farewell sweet cousin

My dear cousin Diana, I remember from birthday parties at Burrows Ave, from family gatherings at my Uncle Roy McElroys mother's home in Arcadia Rd and, of course, from halcyon days of summer spent on the sands of Big Manly beach. I remember her as a beautiful bride in old St Mary's Cathedral and I remember joining with her in St Mary's to farewell my Uncle Roy, her Roydie. Diana and her mother Joan were icons to me of style and elegance. Diana should be remembered as a patron of the arts and for her charitable conscience as part of a golden generation of Aucklanders. And loved always in the hearts of those whose lives she touched.

I have such happy memories of time spent at Ranui Road when I was a child: Di's homemade chocolate chip cookies, doing shows for Di that Jo and I had made up, Di taking Jo and I to buy our first grown up pair of jeans when we were 10 years old, Di taking me to see my very first ballet aged 8. Such happy times with a very special, caring person who was like a second mother to me during those primary school years. Much love to you all - especially Jo and family. You were blessed to have such a special Mum.
