Ingrid and I met in the first week at Medical school in Dublin, when over coffee and Millionaires shortbread (her favorite at the time), she quizzed me on what it was like to live in Apartheid South Africa. I had never met anyone like her before. We became the best of friends

We shared a flat together in Ranelagh for 2 years in the 80's, and grew up and learned about life together... through broken hearts, great laughs, endless cups of coffee and many slabs of Cadbury chocolate. A medical student of many talents, she sewed her own clothes, and taught herself to play the guitar.

As well as her joie de vive , Ingrid had a keen intelligence and a huge heart. She was devoted to her family. She was especially close to her father who was a single dad. A lovely man...he was immensely proud of her. Ingrid in turn was fiercely protective of Rosemary and David.

I look back with fond memories to our time together - singing along at a Chris de Burgh concert, hitch hiking all the way to Monaghan, reading novels when we should have been studying and our long chats late at night.

The last time I saw her was when she and Ross visited South Africa many years ago. Over the years in her infrequent but lengthy letters, her devotion to her family was obvious. She shared photographs and wrote very proudly of Tadgh, Chiannait and Fionn

My heartfelt condolences go to her children, Ross and Rosemary. May they have the strength to bear this loss

Go well, dearest friend. You will be missed

What a loss to society! We have known Ingrid for more than 2 years providing grazing for some of the Irish ponies. What a lovely, energetic, friendly, strong person and character that could pick up a wooden gate by her own! She was so inspirational and showed so much love to the horses. We will miss her cheerfulness and energy! May her memory live on for her family and friends! Etienne & Malinda Shamley Westhead Rd, Pollok
