Dear Trish

Sincere thoughts are with you and your children. I can only imagine how difficult it must be for you and your family.

I didn't have the privilege of knowing Jason prior to his diagnosis, however in the time I got to work with Jason through advocacy (supported by you and your family), I witnessed a deep and caring family man, a gifted leader, who willingly and unselfishly gave of his time to provide an authentic and well informed voice for lung cancer patients and their families.

Jason helped our cause engage and inspire so many people affected by lung cancer and his advocacy is likely one of the key reasons Pharmac are giving very careful consideration to the application for Keytruda in the first line setting.

You and Jason were tremendous ambassadors and we remain ever so committed to ensure NZ does better for lung cancer.

A good man was taken far too soon, but he did not lose to lung cancer, he beat cancer by the way he lived and the manner in which he lived.

May Jason Rest In Peace and his spirit be enduring for you and your children.

May you receive and be comforted by the love and support of those close to you and the special memories that only you will have.

Many blessings and much respect.

Philip

On behalf of Lung Foundation New Zealand Inc.

Below is an excerpt of one of the many messages we have received from lung cancer patients who were touched and inspired by Jason;

That's terrible news, and it is the reality of this horrible disease. He really struck a chord with me, I first saw his story not long after I was diagnosed and the parallels with both our situations, both in terms of advanced stage diagnosis, but also of having a young family, were easy to see and he made me feel less alone. Jason has rarely been far from my mind actually and although I didn't know him I'm so sad to hear the news. He was a brother in the fight.

An amazing man. Set the example right to the end. Condolences from Begovich family in Sydney.

Jason was an important member of 1993 Suburbs U21 rugby side that finished as runners-up in the Auckland Rugby Unions U21 competition. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.

Jason gave me my first job in New Zealand which helped me to settle in this beautiful country. I will always be grateful to him for this. He was a great mentor and colleague. I will always remember him for his friendly nature, patience and desire to get the job done. I will miss you Jason.
