When Jenny and I moved to Warkworth we always admired the immaculately kept farm
just south of our lovely little township. I decided in my midlife crisis that I must have a Harley so bought a Candy Apple Red Heritage bike. On joining the Auckland Chapter
of Harley Owners Group we were asked if we knew Max Donnelly, everybody knows Max.
But No we hadn't had the pleasure. We went on our first Chapter ride to Dargaville.
After being introduced to Max we sat and chattered and discovered we were both born on 28 th May a year apart and he also owned a Candy Apple Red Heritage and was
the owner of that much admired property just south of Warkworth. It has never looked
the same since Max sold the property and moved to Te Pahu. He was always in our
thoughts whenever we drove past and will continue to be so.
He asked us to meet him for dinner one night at the Rusty Pelican in Matakana and
Told us of a wonderful "new girl" he had met who was younger than him. What did
we think???? WE told him to follow his heart. We were very privileged to be invited
to attend their garden wedding and celebration dinner.
We had many happy hours riding our Harley's, Hog Rallies, and a 60 day trip through
the USA including Rte 66. We realized on that trip that Max had become unwell.

We would like to acknowledge Michelle who became "an Angel by His side".
MIchelle we thank you sincerely for your love, care and unfailing devotion to our loved
Max.
Will miss you Matey.
Love Merv and Jenny

It was by chance that I saw that you had passed away.

Memories of the mid 1980's when you were flying the rescue helicopter out of Mechanics Bay and I worked at Sea Bee Air. Many a coffee had together with yourself, Simon, and myself. You even escorted me to one of the choppers Christmas parties and flew me up to Piha during the summer. As I was at an impressionable age you kept an eye on me and offered fatherly advice when you thought I needed it. Rest in Peace Max
