Billy Flynn Obituary

SAN ANGELO Bill Flynn went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 28, 2013.
Bill was born September 3, 1930, in Healdton, Oklahoma. He grew up in Oklahoma and Texas. He was proud to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps, attaining the rank of Corporal and designation as a Rifle Expert.
He married Claudine Butler on October 3, 1958, and shared 53 years together. Bill and Claudine raised their family in Big Spring, Midland and Odessa, Texas. After retirement from successful careers they enjoyed travelling to interesting places around the world. Bill enjoyed hunting, woodworking and was an avid reader.
Bill joined the Texas Liquor Control Board (later name changed to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission) in April 1956. He retired from the TABC in August 1992 as District Supervisor/Captain in the Odessa office. He was well regarded throughout west Texas for his extensive knowledge of the Texas Liquor Law and an honorable Law Enforcement Officer.
Bill was a devout member of the Church of Christ and he and Claudine supported many efforts around the world to share the Gospel. His faith in Christ and love of God were evident in his daily life and a shining example to everyone who knew him.
Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife, Claudine; his father, mother and brother. Survivors include his loving children, Dr. Buddy Flynn, his wife Lori and grandsons John and Robert of San Angelo, Roberta King and husband Roger of Ft. Worth and niece Shanan Flynn Ghaffer of Allen, Texas. For the past year Bill's companion/caregiver, Mary Ramirez, was the sunshine in his days.
Bill was a quiet, thoughtful man with a generous heart. He had a special love for children's homes and took great joy in helping young people obtain their education. He was a man of impeccable integrity, honor and unshakeable faith.
Bill was escorted from his home by five Marines, Sgt. Alexander W. Garabedian, Lcpl. Kaitlin J. Fugate, Lcpl. Ian R. Jensen, Lcpl. Jared E. Sikes, Pfc. Clifford R. Norman. In true Marine fashion, these soldiers displayed honor and respect to their fellow soldier.
At Bill's request there will be no memorial service. His remains will be cremated and the ashes will rest next to his wife, Claudine.
Special thanks go to the caring doctors, nurses, aides and therapists who attended Bill during numerous hospital stays at Shannon Hospital and Shannon Clinic, with utmost gratitude to Dr. Carl Anderton. Never has there been a more dedicated team of healthcare professionals. Thanks also to Molly Riley and Hospice of San Angelo for their gentle care during Bill's final days.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Flynn Scholarship Fund at the San Angelo Area Foundation, the Cherokee Home for Children in Cherokee, TX, The Flynn Family Scholarship at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin or the New Mexico Christian Children's Home in Portales, NM.
Family and friends may sign an online guestbook at johnsons-funeralhome.com.
