Viola Hankins Obituary

ODESSA Viola Sue Hankins lived 70 wonderful years. After her brave fight with breast cancer in 2006, her strong will to live and unwavering faith in God carried her through; until her battle resumed and on October 7th, 2013, she passed away at her home in Cloudcroft, NM.
Sue was born February 28th, 1943, in Ft. Worth, TX, to Eugene and Mary Loraine Bristow; she had two sisters, Winona Jamison and Helen Hargett; her parents and Winona preceded her in death.
Sue was raised in the small town of Sweetwater, TX. She graduated from Sweetwater High School in 1961, the same year she married the love of her life, Gene Hankins. Sue's life and love lives on in the four children she and Gene had: David Hankins, Cathy Bowers (son-in-law, Greg), Evan Hankins (daughter-in-law, Dawn) and Faran Hankins.
Between her children she had 7 grandchildren: DJ, Cameron and Micah Hankins; Jacob and Jordan Bowers; Britni Paris and Madi Hankins. Sue was delighted to have one great-granddaughter: Allie.
A woman of faith, she shaped the lives of her children and those surrounding her with her strong Christian values and devotion. Sue was blessed many times over; she had an amazing singing voice that her sister-in-law, Nedra Morrell, remembers fondly. Sue could also paint beautiful scenes of nature and could pass many hours away reading wholesome books by authors she thought to be proper and decent.
Sue Hankins was a strong, caring woman who treasured life and lived that life in God's service. Sue loved the mountains, where her ashes will remain, but her spirit walks with her Savior in Heaven.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on October 10th, 2013, at Life Change Baptist Church in Odessa, TX, with Johnny Thomason officiating.
