Glenn Smoot Obituary
Glenn Kevin Smoot (G. Kevin) formerly of Gillett, Wis. was born Jan. 26, 1949, in Hinsdale, Ill., to Margaret (Patz) and Glenn W. Smoot. He moved with his family to a farm near Gillett as a child and graduated from Gillett High School. Continuing education included, UW-Green Bay, NWTC and self study. Following military service, Kevin married Gayle Herning May 25, 1973. He managed movie theaters, sold real estate and insurance.
Kevin and Gayle lived for a time in Wausau, Wis. and Rockford, Ill., before returning to Gillett.
He was a member of the Rockford Pine Tree Pistol Club, chaplain of the Rockford Area Jaycees and official unpaid staff photographer for the Northern Illinois Chapter of the March of Dimes. Upon returning to Wisconsin, Kevin became active in the Oconto County Dairy Promotions, Gillett Civic Club and American Legion Krause Simpson Post. He was Commander of the Luebke-Robinson VFW Post 8314 and Past Master of the Gillett Masonic Lodge #344. Keven proudly served seven years as a member of the Gillett Public Library Board of Directors.
Shortly after implementing plans to move to Florida in 2013, Kevin was diagnosed with glioblastoma brain cancer. He died Monday, Feb. 2, 2015, in Orlando, Fla.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years and one daughter, Evelyn of Florida; one brother, Gilman (Cheryl Winkler), Minneapolis; one niece, Elizabeth and one nephew, Justin (Phyllis).
Masonic services will be held at a future date in Florida.
The family was served by Golden's Funeral Home, Winter Park, Fla.

Please allow me to express my sincere condolences to Mrs. Gayle Smoot and daughter Evelyn. Being no stranger to the loss of a husband and father I can relate somewhat to the pain of your loss at this time. What has given me much comfort have been the words at 2.Kings 20:5 " I have heard your prayers, I have seen your tears, I will heal you."
May the thought that a stranger is thinking of you today in her prayers be comforting to both of you.
