Edward Dale
Hawkins
Edward Dale Hawkins passed away September, 28, 2013.
He was born October 16, 1930 in Blooming-dale, Ohio to parents, Clarence and Ella Mae Hawkins, and joined a large family.
Ed served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant in the Korean War. He earned his Bachelor Degree from Miami University and his Masters Degree from Ohio State University. Ed held numerous positions with local government including Deputy Administrator to the Mayor. He became a professor in the Political Science Department at both Cleveland State University and Kent State University. Later he retired from a position with the Federal Government. Ed had a passion for his family, his canine companions, politics, reading and most of all his garden. His planting advice and glorious vegetable garden will be sadly missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James, Robert, and Clarence; sisters, Beryl, Kate, Minnie and Patricia; brother-in-law, Bill; sister-in-law, Tish; and his loyal canine son, Skippy. Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Celia; daughter, Tina; canine companion, Charlie; brothers, Warren, Jerry (MaryLou); sister, Leah (Fran); sisters-in-law, MaryLou and Donna; many nieces and nephews; extended family, Chuck, Jim, Yvonne; friends and neighbors, all of whom he dearly loved.
Services will be held 10:30 a.m. FRIDAY, at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Road, with Father Andrew Lentz officiating. Interment with military honors at Mount Peace Cemetery, American Legion Charles Faust Post # 281 officiating. Friends may call THURSDAY, 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Ed was the greatest neighbor, kind, generous and always willing to help. He kept his eye on all of us and we will miss him dearly. All our love and condolences to Celia, Tina and their family.
