James S. Eden
James S. Eden, 92, passed away Oct. 29, 2013 at Hope Healthcare Services in Lehigh Acres, Florida.
He was born May 18, 1921 in Akron, Ohio, to the late Adam F. and Mae (Stanhope) Erdenberger. He served in a staff position at Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces attached to the 101st Airborne during World War II. Jim graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1943 with a BS in Pharmacy and went on to be President and Chairman of The Independent Drug Co., Tallmadge. He married Genevieve Rothe on Oct. 8, 1943. He was an Eagle Scout, a Master Mason and member of Adoniram-Joppa Lodge #517, Scottish Rite, Royal Arch Masons, Shriners, and a member of Portage Country Club, Sharon Golf Club, and the Blue Coats. He served as a volunteer with the American Red Cross and was an amateur HAM radio operator K8UIW. He was a member of The Church of Silver Lake, The Episcopal Church in Key West, The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepard, LaBelle, Florida. Jim had been a member of Rotary International for 63 years (Akron Ohio, LaBelle Florida). Jim was Past President of the Summit County Pharmaceutical Association and served on many State committees associated with his profession of Pharmacy.
Jim and his wife, Ginny, retired to LaBelle, Florida in 1991, where he was active in the Episcopal Church and chaired its building and membership committees. The Rotary Club of LaBelle named him Rotarian of the year, and he was active in the LaBelle Heritage Museum.
Survivors include two sons, James S. (June) Eden, Jr. of Ravenna, and John W. (Gloria) Eden of Cuyahoga Falls; nine grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Genevieve, on July 21, 2012.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 22, 2013 at The Church in Silver Lake, with Pastor Brad Jagger officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your favorite charity.
