Glenn Royer Obituary

Glenn J. Royer

Oct. 29,1921

Dec 2.2015

Glenn J. Royer Never seeking it for himself, a deeply Good and Faithful Servant has been given his rest.

Survived by wife of 70 years, Millie Royer née Banks; and sons, Tom, Dan, and Paul; preceded in death by sister, Ruth Tambling née Royer and brother, Harold Royer.

Glenn lived and breathed the motto of his Chapel Hill retirement community, "Adding Life to Years," then passed quickly and unexpectedly in his 94th year.

Glenn Graduated from Hoover High and attended Heidelberg University, Ohio, University of Maine, and Bangor Theological Seminary, holding a Master's of Divinity, and ordained in 1969. An Army Air Corpsmen in World War II, he piloted B-24/29s with a life shaping conflict between duty and honor, God and country.

Tirelessly active and definitive members of Canal Fulton's Trinity United Church of Christ, he and Millie still volunteered weekly at Barberton Hospital. Glenn currently performed over 20 years as Pastor of Visitations for Wooster's Trinity United Church of Christ, well-loved sister congregation. Glenn's pastorates included David's UCC in Canal Winchester, Ohio and St Peter's UCC in Clinton, Ohio, and Springfield (Maine) UCC.

Person-to-person was his favorite pastoral call; the pulpit, he felt, was there to keep him humble. And the long list of lives touched warmly and deeply by Glenn's personal care seems only to have been a warm-up for his "real" work after retirement. Safely said, Glenn will long continue to "touch hearts and transform lives," through his relentless activism in the struggle for justice and peace, but his was a selfless, low key work habit.

Please take the time to be inspired in the wake of his passing: see www.swigarteasterlingfuneralhome.com and perhaps make donations in lieu of flowers to Habitat for Humanity,www.habitat.org, 270 Peachtree St. NW, Suite 1300, Atlanta, GA 30303 or United Church Homes, 170 E. Center St., Marion, OH 43302 . . .maybe decide to help out where Glenn has left off.

A celebration of Glenn's life and work will be hosted by Trinity UCC Canal Fulton, 8101 Manchester Rd. at 11 a.m. on SATURDAY, December, 12th Swigart-Easterling, 330-854-2356

Glenn was a humble man despite inspiring so many with his courage and wisdom. He was a John T. Looney Peace and Justice award winner for the Barberton Norton Wadsworth Peace Group which was richly deserved. We will miss him greatly.

So Sorry for your loss Paul, Dan & Family. I just ran into your Dad and Mom at the hearing doctor with my mom. I also would see him over at Barberton Hospital when I would take my mom there. Lots of good memories as a neighbor.

We offer our prayerful thoughts and gratitude for Rev. Royer's leadership at United Church Homes. His vision and support enabled us to develop affordable housing not only for deserving Ohioans, but also for people in twelve other states and on two Native American reservations. We are saddened by this loss of one of our foremost elders and guides who have shaped our ministry to seniors and the disabled. We celebrate Rev. Royer's memory and thank God for his selfless devotion to our mission.
