Lawrence Shaffer Obituary
Lawrence D. Shaffer, 87, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2013.
Born in Akron, he had been an area resident his entire life, having retired from Firestone after 38 years of service. Lawrence was a member of Grace Bible Church (formerly Manchester Trinity Chapel) where he served as custodian, deacon, usher and elder for many years. Lawrence was a proud Army veteran having served during World War II.
Preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; sister, Dorothy Hudson; brother, Ray Shaffer; and son-in-law, Bill Pickrell; survivors include his daughter, Susan; sons, Larry (Nita) and Roger (Darlene); 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Helen Shaffer.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Grace Bible Church, 5781 Manchester Rd., Akron, OH 44319, Pastor Joel Stroup officiating. Burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Calling hour ONE HOUR PRIOR to service at the church.

Dearest Cousins Larry, Susan and Roger, I am sincerely and with deepest sympathy to your father passing. As I knew him 'Uncle Knute' an honorable husband and a great love of his family and a patriotic Veteran. He will be missed greatly. With love, Bill

My memories of Dorothy and Larry are such good ones. Great people and I loved the opportunity I had to get to know both of them during my years at Manchester Trinity. May God bless all of you during this time.
