Melba Lerch Obituary
Melba (Fischnich) Lerch, 89, of Canal Fulton, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013.
She was born April 16, 1924 in Canal Fulton and was a life resident. She was a 1942 graduate of Canal Fulton High School, a charter member of the Auxiliary for the Canal Fulton VFW #9795 and was a member of SS Philip & James Catholic Church, Canal Fulton. She devoted her life in the care of her husband and family. The Family offers their heartfelt gratitude to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas, Stark and Carroll Counties, especially Angela, who became our own Angel and treated Mom as if she was her own mother.
Melba was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James Lerch and her parents and she was the last of six children.
She is survived by her son, Bill (JoAnn) Lerch; daughters, Becky (Bill) Boles, LuAnne Casto and Maureen Lerch; seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Anna Rohr, Vikki Roberts and Paula Hurst.
Funeral service 11 a.m. SATURDAY at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 E. Cherry St. (Rt. 93, Canal Fulton), with Fr. Kevin McCaffrey officiating. Friends may call FRIDAY, 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Final resting place, Canal Fulton Cemetery. Bill, Becky, Luanne and Maureen, you are my family and we have suffered another great loss. Your mom was like a mother to me, as your dad was my father. Our hearts will hurt, but will also hold all of the great memories you have created in your journey of life you had with her. She was a very brave and strong woman. Bill, Becky, Luanne and Maureen. You are my family and we have suffered a great loss. Your mom was like a mother to me, as your dad was like my father. There's no more suffering except in our hearts, but Melba is free of all pain. She is happy and healthy again and will remain forever with the love of her life. She will rest in peace and will continue to watch over you. She will never leave your side. I love you Melba. God's Speed.
