John Hathaway Obituary

John "Jack" Allen Hathaway

John "Jack" Allen Hathaway, age 79, died on Oct. 30th, 2013 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley in 2012 and is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John A. and Beverly Hathaway of Virginia Beach, Virginia; son, Bill Hathaway of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; and daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Doug Dearth of Los Angeles, California. Jack had four grandchildren, Sean Hathaway, Jay Hathaway, Michael Hathaway, Meredith Hathaway; and three great-grandchildren.

Jack retired from Goodyear after 42 years of service. His work in implementing Goodyear's Total Quality Culture took him on assignments throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia to Goodyear domestic and foreign locations, and to other U.S. companies where Goodyear worked to develop joint ventures and partnerships with suppliers and customers. Jack was honored in 1981 as the corporate staff winner of the Goodyear Spirit Award. He often reminisced with great joy of the many wonderful adventures he had while working for Goodyear.

The family would like to thank Nancy and Dick Prather of Akron, Ohio for their love and never ending support. The family would also like to thank Colleen, Sharleen and the staff of Senior Independence, as well as, the staff at Chapel Hill Retirement Community (where Jack was king of the dance floor) for their compassionate care and friendship. Lastly, the family would like to thank Jack's lifelong friends, Terry Deems, Hal Pulcini, Dave Gowans and Mike Burns affectionately dubbed the "Goodyear Gang." Their visits always brought joy, laughter and fabulous story telling. A special thank you to Terry for his bi-weekly cream stick deliveries. If you had the pleasure of meeting Jack once, you were guaranteed a friend for life.

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, November 7, 2013, 7 p.m. at Chapel Hill Retirement Community, 12200 Strausser St., Canal Fulton, Ohio 44614, and where friends may call Thursday, 6 p.m. until time of service. Graveside Service Friday, 10 a.m. at Hillside Memorial Park, Akron.

Not only is he back with Shirley, he is with many great old friends, again. My folks were great friends, and Jack brought me into Goodyear and always took a minute to ask how things were going and shake hands with that huge smile.
Johnny, Billy, Beth..our thoughts and prayers are with you once agein.

God speed Jack! I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Jack via Goodyear and IVI Travel. He worked hard and played hard! I enjoyed working with him on the Top 10 groups! Too bad Goodyear does not have more like him - honest and fair!

Jack was the humblest person I've ever met. He put value on family and friends, no strings attached, because he sincerely cared. It was a blessing
to have known him.

I had the pleasure of working with Jack at Goodyear and then seeing him on my visits to my Mom who is at Chapel Hill. Jack definitely had a zest for life and loved people. My sympathies to Beth and Doug who I also got to know on their many visits to Chapel Hill. May God Bless you and your family at this difficult time.
