Jennie Connell Obituary

Jennie A. Connell

TALLMADGE -- Jennie A. Connell (Marino), age 96, of Tallmadge, Ohio, passed away on September 1, 2014, with loving son, Jack, by her side.

Jennie was born November 17, 1917 at Akron City Hospital and was the last surviving child of departed Italian immigrant parents, Carrie and Tony Marino and of departed sisters, Rose Braccio, Mary DeBenedictis, Helen Breiding, Ann Firth, Lucy Marino; and departed brothers, Nick and Tony (Philip) Marino. Jennie was married to Jack R. Connell in 1939. Sons included Arthur (departed) and surviving son, Jack.

Jennie graduated from Akron Central High School in 1935 and was the first in her family to attend college (UA). She had a long career as a department store buyer in Akron, Peoria, Memphis, Fort Worth, and New Orleans. Afterward she joined sons Arthur and Jack in their business in New York City, Jennie and sister Lucy (everyone's favorite "Aunt Lu") returned to Akron in 1993 to be near sisters Mary and Helen after 10 years retirement in Santa Barbara near brother Tony and sister-in-law Mary (Vacarro) and their family.

Jack will forever be grateful to the DeBenedictis families of Akron whose love and support for Jennie and Lucy has been extraordinary since their return to Akron: Pat and Pru DeBenedictis of Tallmadge, Jake and Sandy DeBenedictis of Canton, Len and Deb DeBenedictis of Stow; and most notably, Jennie's favorite niece, Maryanne (DeBenedictis) and husband Jerry Killian and their children, Mary, Patrick and Gina. Jack would further like to acknowledge neighbor, Alberta Kunkel, for her loving support; caretaker, Regina Leising, for her support and care of Jennie and the amazing caring professionals at Western Reserve Hospital in Cuyahoga Falls. Their combined efforts and love will never be forgotten.

Viewing will be held at 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2014, at Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Avenue (On Historic Tallmadge Circle) and 9:30 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2014, prior to the service.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014, at Our Lady of Victory Church, 73 North Avenue, Tallmadge with Rev. Michael Matusz officiating.

Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, mass cards or gifts to favorite charities in Jennie's name will be greatly appreciated. Mass cards will be available at the funeral home or Church.

Jack - We are so sad to hear of Aunt Jennie's passing. We had such a wonderful birthday celebration with Aunt Jennie last year and it was a great time for us all to be with her and enjoy her happiness in spending the day with all the DeBenedictis and Braccio Families and friends. All our prayers and love, Cousins,
