Albert P.F. Konig, 83, of Uniontown, passed away July 19, 2013. He was born in Indonesia on August 10, 1929. Albert was captured during the Japanese War and later served with the Royal Dutch Indonesian Army (KNIL). Albert moved to Holland in 1950. He was a combat veteran and POW of the Korean War, serving with the Royal Dutch Army. He was embedded with the U.S. Army Second Infantry. During his service, Albert was a paratrooper and was awarded a Bronze Star and the Green and Red Beret. He was also awarded the United Nations Service Medal and the Cross for Justice and Freedom for his service during the Korean War. By the end of his Army career, he had earned the rank of Sargent. In 1960, he and his family moved to the United States. He retired from Harwick Chemical after 30 years of service.
He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Parish, the American Legion, and the Dutch American Club. Albert enjoyed the outdoors and fishing. He was a talented artist and loved to paint. He also enjoyed traveling, H.A.M. radios, music, and playing the guitar. Above all, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adriaan Konig and Josepina Drinhuyzen; brother, August and sister, Augustina Konig; in-laws, Antonius Roestenburg and Nesah Madsair; and brother-in-law, Peter Roestenburg.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Pauline; children, Peter (Pamela) Konig, Crystal Konig, Christopher Konig, and Anthony Allen; brothers and sisters, Wally, Emiel, Ruth, Jane, Willem, Maria, and David; grandchildren, Dustin Konig, Carmen Konig, and Ravyn Clark; brothers and sisters-in-law, Emma, Lucas, Marie, Joop, Rinus, Ton, and Veroon.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday, July 24 from 5 to 8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Prayers will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 9 a.m. followed by a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Francis de Sales Church, 4019 Manchester Rd., Akron. I am sorry for the family's loss. I worked with Albert at Harwick Chemical until he retired. He was a nice person and I enjoyed hearing his stories from the time he was in the service. He loved his family and waited for that yearly / month long visit with them in Holland or when they came to the U.S.

crystal I love you and I'm so sorry. Pauline, christopher, ravyn and Pete be that family unit to keep each other constantly feeling love, always sending positive vibes into the universe. And when one falls, be there to pick them back up. Mr konig was such a gentle and caring person who would want it that way. Always remember to carry on his legacy.
