George L. Purdy
George L. Purdy, 76, passed away unexpectedly February 20, 2014. Born in Lloydsville, Ohio on October 25, 1937 to Lawrence and Effie Pierce Purdy, he was an area resident most of his life.
George, a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, was a Marine Corps veteran and a retired Akron City Police officer with over 26 years of service. He was a member of FOP Lodge 7.
George is survived by his loving family; wife of almost 35 years, Kehren; children, Georgetta Purdy, Kenneth Purdy and Melinda "Mindy" Stewart and her husband Chris Sr.; grandchildren, Chris, Jr., Evan, Russell, Cameron; and three great grandchildren; sister, Betty (Roger) Neff and Jane Davis; "Poppy's Special Angel", Peaches; and many other dear relatives and friends.
Visitation Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hecker Funeral Home in Uniontown, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Robert Denton officiating and where police honors will be conducted by FOP Lodge 7. Burial at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. For those wishing, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Greater Akron, 7796 Darrow Rd., Twinsburg, OH. 44087.
