Ray Beery Obituary

Ray Eugene Beery

Ray completed his earthly journey and went to be with the Lord on December 21, 2014 after his battle with glioblastoma.

He was born to parents Agnes and Eugene Beery at their farmhouse near Lima, Ohio.

Ray is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Carole; daughters from his first marriage, Stephanie Beery and Susan Zittle (Matt); stepdaughter and stepson, Melanie and Jason Robinson; grandsons, Stephen, Devon and Nathan; sisters, Mary Geiger (Chuck) and Margaret Blume; and nieces, Jill, Tracy, Jane, and Kendall.

He graduated from Bluffton Christian College and worked at The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. He was an exceptional chemical engineer and compounder for 38 years. Many of his ideas were patented.

Ray was very active in Lakeview Christian Church, where he served as a deacon for several decades. He donated a great deal of time to beautifying the grounds of the church as well as helping fellow members. Ray assisted in spiritual needs such as delivering communion to people who couldn't make it to services. He distributed the Word to many by handing out Bibles around the community.

He completed his dream home, a log cabin, 16 years ago and was able to enjoy it with his wife Carole. He loved to walk on his property and loved nature. Ray was involved in racing for many years. It brought him great joy to win time trials driving Chevy Corvairs, including one he modified/designed himself.

Ray was always designing structures, tools, vehicles, you name it. He never stopped until Parkinson's disease and brain cancer interrupted his activities. He was always evolving or creating and implementing up until he could not any longer. He will be missed by many.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in care of Lakeview Christian Church to assist Carole in this difficult time. A Memorial will be held Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Lakeview Christian Church (4613 S. Main Street, Akron, OH 44319). Family and friends may visit between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. A service will follow at 2 p.m., officiated by Minister Daryl Moulder. Refreshments will follow in the social hall.

I remember Mr Beery as being so kind and showing us his race car in his garage on Berna Rd. He left a lasting impression on me to this day, and when Josh Berry won the NASCAR race today, I could only think of Mr Beery and his influence on me.

My sympathies. I remember working with Ray when I worked for the Chief Chemist Ted Riehl in Tire Development/Compounding. He was always a true gentleman and an absolute professional.

God promises us in John 14 "Trust in god, trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. I am going to prepare place for you" Ray is safe and sound in Jesus's arms and is spending his first Christmas in heaven, wipe away your tears and rejoice that Ray is not ill but serving our Lord Jesus as he did at Lakeview Church. God's blessings and may the Holy Spirit comfort you, Love, Jan, Len and Eric Zittle
