It was a pleasure to know Coach Fortner during my high school years. I was a team backer, and as a result was very active encouraging the team under his direction. I have great memories! Coach Fortner was supportive of his team! Many of my classmates have become productive adults. We were fortunate to have good role models such as Coach Fortner at Kenmore. Our families set an example of the importance of hard work. Many of the fathers worked in the factories at that time. The teachers guided us academically, and many of my classmates are college graduates and have contributed to their communities. Coach Fortner set high standards for his students and team through setting goals and by showing respect to his students and members of the team. His chosen profession made an impact as a result of his character. He made a difference to those who knew him--hopefully, his family can find some comfort knowing this is the days ahead.

To Sharon and the Fortner Family,

Your beloved Dad was the consummate competitor, initially in sports and then moving on to his prized vegetables! I continue to learn about your Dad and his zest for life with every picture I see and every blue ribbon I am shown - with everything he attempted he gave it his all! Two great memories I have are when he strapped me into his hang gliding gear and I took off...in my head! The other is when his Gemella gave birth to the cutest St. Bernard puppies and he put several of them in my arms all at once! He will be missed by all but especially by Team Fortner. I know Coach Lillian will stand up to the challenge and make her husband proud!

With love and sympathy,
Kathy O'Brien- Carter

Dear Fortner family,
Not only was he a great coach but a good singer. I have wonderful memories singing with him.
Sorry for your loss.

What a wonderful man who will be missed by so many. My fondest memories are of Dick and Lil delivering "goodies" from the garden and orchard year after year. The apple cider was always the best and being able to spend time at 9 acres picking apples and pumpkins is a memory our family will never forget. We are so sorry for your loss.
