I am so sorry for your loss. Bob and Jan were great neighbors and they were always so kind and "neighborly." I spoke with Bob when Jan passed away and even though he was missing her terribly, he was trying hard to adjust. My prayers are with your family.

So sorry to hear of Bob's passing. I didn't know him well. I met him while he was a driver for the American Red Cross Medical Transportation Department. When he drove on Thursdays, I was his dispatcher. He was a very nice man. I enjoyed working with him.

I was lucky to have Mr. Bier as my teacher when he first came to Highland Park around 1977 when he started teaching 3rd grade. As a young, passionate teacher he quickly captured the attention and imagination of our class; his energy and sense of humor were tremendous assets. He was my teacher the next year as we both moved to 4th grade, and he solidified his place as one of the most influential teachers of my life. Since I grew up in the house next to Highland Park, I stayed in touch with him well beyond elementary school, and took my kids to visit him a few years ago before the old school closed. He was an excellent teacher and a great person. I wish there were more like him.
