As an OU fan I always loved watching Austin play. The emotion he played with was unreal. I will never forget the day I heard about his passing. My heart sank. As a father I tried to imagine how I would feel, I couldn't bare it. My thoughts and prayers have gone out to the Box family every day since then. I wish you peace and comfort in the days and years to come.
Dear Craig and Gail, I write this the day before the season opener of the 2011 season. I lost my beautiful daughter, Steffanie,in 2002 in a car accident when she was 24. Although you will never be able to fill the large loss in your heart, the day will come when you will be able to talk about Austin with a smile on your face and not tears in your eyes. I was deeply saddend the day of Austin's death, knowing the hurt you were going through. I now take Steffanie's son to every OU game I can when he is not playing , for he too will be playing at OU someday. You stay in my thoughts.
To The Box Family : Today is Austin's Day, August 10th. I know that he is watching over you and loving you with his huge heart. I know how hard Birthdays are when you are without your Child, and your other children are without their Brother. I have nothing that can make it better, If I did, I would ask GOD please to give Austin back to you for many more years. I am here for you to talk to, cry with, anything I can do to lend support. I am thinking and praying for you today as I always am. Happy Birthday, Austin ! I know that all of Heaven is Celebrating with You, and my Son, C.J. is there with you too. Know that I love you all, and I am here for you.
I have written once before when Austin first passed away. I wanted to offer my condolences one more time to the Box family and friends and of course the Sooner Nation as well. I am a life long Sooner fan and that will never change. Austin was my favorite player of all and I really miss him and will continue to through all the future games. It will never be the same without him, but I have no doubt that he is in excellent hands and is being very well taken care of.
May the Sooners dedicate this season to Austin in assurance that he will never be forgotten and retire his #12 jersey, as I am sure no one will ever be able to fill it the way he did. There is only one #12. God bless you Box family, for bringing such a wonderful person into this world and sharing him with the Sooner Nation and many others. You should always be proud of your accomplishments and your wonderful son's accomplishments and know that none of them were in vane. Heaven is richer now because of Austin's presence and I look forward to meeting him there. Again, may God Bless you all and keep you safe.
Austin was known for his kindness, compassion and huge heart. It made him the kind of friend and teammate that everyone loved and respected.
May the Box family be comforted in knowing that Austin is at peace and will never forgotten. The Sooner Nation will always keep Austin in our hearts and memories forever.
Vicki, Tulsa Oklahoma
In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always.
Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you.
To the Box family: May the love of family, friends and the Sooner Nation carry you through your grief.
We will always remember Austin!
Austin was a great young man that excited us all on Saturdays. He will be sorely missed by the Sooner Nation. My condolences to his parents.
OU Football is really nice. I loved Austin because he was a super nice person and loved people. We will sorely miss him and may Heavenly Father's compassion and Spirit be with the entire Box family. Families can be together forever.
As a Sooner fan since 1971 it pains me deeply when a Sooner has any problems at all...so much more when it causes his death.
The whole Sooner Nation is saddened by Austins' death.
I'm so sorry for your and OUr loss!
I remember seeing Austin at Meet the Sooners Day as a redshirt freshman. It just makes me realize that life is so delicate. Austin is one of my heroes and I will never forget the legacy he left at Oklahoma. All the recent articles talk about his loving nature, and that is one of the most important aspects of human being. I'll miss you and your unique hair style. God bless him and his family.
May God be in the hearts of all of Austin's Family.
as a sooner fan for my whole life, the best linebacker in ou history was austin box(sorry boz) the way this kid played inside linebacker is how any up and coming linebacker should play the position i watched him as a true freshmen and i fell in love with how he had a nose for the ball but also stuck his nose in their at all times. im so sorry for the family and just know that im inh california and ur kid inspired young kids all around the world. GREAT TACKLER.
Austin was an inspiration to me as a long time sooner fan(60 yr}. I will very much miss seeing him and reading about his furure progress. May God bless his family.
I am an Arkansas gal & fan, but very familiar with the name of Austin Box. What an awesome player he was. I was shocked to hear of his passing. I cannot imagine the pain of his parents, family, friends, teammates & classmates. A wonderful, talented life gone way too soon. Today there are no rivalries, today we are one. I pray that God's love, mercy & grace blanket you all with peace and comfort. God Bless you all. God Bless you Austin.
Austin was a great young man and will be missed by many. I just watched again the OU-Nebraska Dec. big 12 Championship Game and Austin's name was mentioned many times. He was a great a football player and the Sooners will miss him in many ways this year. Our hearts and prayers are with you all!
A great player and and an even better person. My heartfelt sympathies go out to you.
To the Box Family, words can't express the depth of our sympathy. From afar in DC, you have our hearts and thoughts. With Love, Cara and Marek Rich
A gentle giant gone to soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We will never forget the times shared with you all as the OKC Panthers traveling and playing basketball. No matter how many times Austin was filed his expression did not change. One lasting memory is Harold waking me up during his Christmas break saying mom I saw Austin tonight. I will miss looking for him on Saturdays. Wilson Family, Midwest City, Oklahoma
God Bless Austin and his family
My thoughts and prayers are with the Box family/friends.
To the Box family...
My deepest sympathy and prayers will always be with you guys. As a fellow alum from Enid High, I always got excited when former Plainsmen went on to play college ball, especially at OU...he was a pleasure to watch, both at Enid and at OU....he definatly will be missed...RIP #12
To Austin's Family, I am moved to write to you again. We are O.U. Football Parents. Our Son is Matt Wilson # 67, a walk on from North Carolina. Austin was a help to Matt and as Matt puts it "AUSTIN WAS ALWAYS a FRIEND TO ME." Matt is crushed with the loss of his Friend and Teammate. He knows the devastation upon a family when a Child and a Brother is gone too soon to Heaven. Matt lost his Brother (our oldest Son out of 3 boys)when Matt was 15 yrs old. C.J. was 21 yrs. Matt knows what it is to lose a Brother and his parents a Son. If We or Matt can be of Comfort to You, Please do not hesitate to contact us. We will be here for you for eternity. As I sit here and read the entries in Austin's Guestbook, I am so moved at the fact that Austin touched so many lives. And I know this is just a small portion of the lives he has touched from the moment he was born to You as your Child and to his Sisters-your Brother. I know our Son, Matt, spoke highly of Austin always, and we felt like we knew Austin through Matt and from watching Austin on the field. I wish that I could turn back the hands of time and bring him back to you. I am devastated for you. I know that Austin is in Heaven with the LORD and our Son , C.J.is there with him. I know they are having the Time of their eternal lives and doing perfect...and I know - HEAVEN IS MUCH RICHER with AUSTIN there but here we are much more poor with him gone from this earth.
We are here for you at anytime. I will attach my email if there is anytime you want to contact us.
May GOD HOLD YOU ALL SO VERY TIGHT IN HIS CARE,
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AS ONLY HE CAN,
( Matt's Mom # 67 Defense-O.U. Football )
To the Box Family and Friends
May God give you strength and hope during these dark times. The light will return and you will be able to cherish the time with Austin. He was a favorite player of mine because he so reminded me of my brother who played for the Sooners in the 70's. A small town Oklahoma boy living the dream of so many young boys who play football by getting to play for the Sooners. He is was the epitome of OU Football. We, as fans don't know these young men personally, but as an OU fan they seem to become family. His courage, grit and determination was admirable. He truly will be missed, so our prayers and sympathies are with you. May God Bless you all.
I am so sorry for your loss, as Austin was a great role model for my son and for me. He will be greatly missed from our place here on earth but is now on a much bigger team with the Lord.
To The Box Family.
May god bless you and your family. We have followed Austin and the sooner for years. Me my wife and son got to watch the sooners play OSU in Norman a couple of years ago and my son thought the world of Austin. He is 12 years old and played little league football here in Richmond Texas and his dream is to play football for the Sooners one day. Thank you for having a Son that was such a great role model for my son. We will always remember Austin and you'll will always be in our prayers.
To the Box Family:
May God ease your sorrow and pain, as a coach and a father of three young girls I can't imagine what you are going thru, and the only place I know to find comfort is in the outstretched arms or our Lord God Almighty.
To Craig and Gail, our deepest and sincere sympathy go out to you and the entire Box family.
We were devastated when we got the news about Austin's death. He was a member of 2007 OU football signing class along with our son Frank Alexander (#84) and they are a close group of young men. All of them, as seniors, were looking forward to playing their final football season as Oklahoma Sooners. Although we are all feeling sad right now, we are grateful that we had the opportunity to meet and know Austin as a young man. As parents, we always want the best of everything for our children and we work hard to provide opportunities for them to excel. Take comfort in knowing that you followed the plan that God had for Austin’s life. Our prayer is that God continue to abide in your lives as He helps you to deal with the loss of your son.
Frank and Juanita Alexander & Family

Thoughts and prayers to the Box family. Yes I am a devoted sooner fan, but Austin seemed to be so much more than just a player. I did not get the chance to know him. I was able to enjoy his lust for life on the field. The number 12 will always now mean much more for the sooners. It brings the fact that life is to short,we must enjoy every moment we have. God bless you and your family.
Prayers for your family. May you rest in peace.
I had the privilege of having Austin as a student in a communication class I taught as a graduate student during his freshman year. He embodied what it means to be a student athlete, an inquisitive, bright young man excited to learn and with a passion for his sport. He was one of my favorite students to ever have in a class. He will be greatly missed and sooner fans across the world grieve with his family. Austin, you will be fondly remembered. I hope you enjoy cheering for your Sooners up there with others of Sooner Nation who have gone ahead of us.
My condolences to the Box family and all who had the good fortune to know such a great young man.
My thoughts and prayers to the family. May god keep you in his tender care. I am a loyal sooner fan. Austin, will be missed he was a great player.

Thank you for sharing such a wonderful person. Thoughts and prayers for your family. May God strengthen you each and every day.
Thank you for sharing your son and his service with the community today. I know there aren't any words that can ease your pain but please know that your family is in our thoughts and prayers. He was a remarkable young man who touched a nation. Although I only met him a few times when he was in school - I only have positive thoughts of him. My husband has always been a Sooner fan, while I have always been a cowboy fan. However, over the past few yrs, I found myself excited to watch and cheer on Austin, thus making me a supporter of the Sooners as well. I will always remember him because when my young child was learning to talk, it happened to be during football season. One of her first words was "Box". Whenever the Sooners would come on TV, she would start yelling out "Box" and running around the living room. It's a small memory in comparision to the man that he was and everything that he stood for, but I wanted to share a moment with my daughter that will always be cherished. God Bless you.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Box family. Although we did not know Austin, except from his plays on the football field, we feel as though we've lost a great friend. May God comfort you during this time of sorrow.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Austin will never be forgotten!! And will always be Ashton's hero! XOXO

Although I do not know you personally, I feel as if I do through my daughter. Jen has called me daily and has shared her profound emotions with me. I offer my deepest sympathy to his family and friends.
God has a great young man by his side.
Our hearts and prayers go out to the Box family during this difficult time. I just hope Austin knew, and you know what a great human being he was. If you think about the impact he had on 84K plus fans in the stands and millions of others that loved watching him play, and then conduct himself in a manner that was beyond professional off the field. Austin was like the brother we never had, or the son we never had. And so we grieve with you, because he felt like a family member to all of us.
We lift you all up in prayer, knowing you will see him again.
Our deepest sympathy and prayers to the Box Family.Austin was such a joy to watch.

I have always been an o/u football fan and began following Austin during his recruitment process and decided he would be the player whose career I followed throughout his playing times. Assistant Football Coach

To the Family of Austin Box,
My son has always loved OU and dreamed of playing for them one day. He had a special player that he loved. It was your son Austin. He knew all about him and cheered for him every game. We even went to OU last summer and hoped to run into him. On April 5 our young son died in his sleep of a heart problem we did not know he had. He was a great football player and wonderful young Christian. We know your pain because we feel it ourselves everyday. I pray for God to give you strength until you can stand on your own again. I do believe when Austin got to Heaven, my son Peyton Chavez was waiting for him with his arms wide open and ready to play some football. Two great young men who love OU in the arms of their father. Thank you for your son and the smile he always put on my sweet boys face!
Love and prayers,
As a proud Enid High School alum and even prouder OU alum, I want you to know you are in our prayers. Please understand how much everyone loved Austin and his outlook on life. He was not only an amazing football player, but an amazing young man. He will be missed.
Dear Craig, Gail and family,
Filled with pride of an Enid native doing so well on the Enid High and OU football fields, I recall many conversations of Austin's awesome successes during and after football games. We did not know Austin personally, but after following his achievements in the newspaper, and after reading so many comments about him online, he was obviously a tremendous inspiration to many people well beyond the football field.
Our deepest sympathies to you and your family as you go through these difficult times, following the loss of your beloved Austin. From our family to yours, we will continue to lift you up in our prayers, believing God will bring you comfort as you struggle to cope with a broken heart.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Box family. When I think about this terrible tragedy at a life gone far to soon, the poem "The Dash" comes to mind. It is not the dates from the beginning to the end it is how Austin lead is life in the dash between the two dates. May God help this family heal.
You are in our prayers, we are so sorry for your loss. I was proud to say that I taught that OU player pre-school. He was such a little cutie at three years old, I'll never forget his sweet smile and shiny beautiful eyes. May God Bless you and keep you and give you peace.

Long may you run.
Deepest sympathies from a Sooner in Houston. Austin will never be forgotten.
So sorry for the pain the Box family is experiencing. Praying God will wrap his arms around you during this extremely difficult time. I can't tell you time will heal your hurt but I pray that time will provide you some ease. My heart is aching, not for the Sooner fans but for your family.
Our deepest sympathy for your loss. We will definitely miss seeing Austin suited up and on the field defending the great OU football team. God Bless!
Austin was the epitome of OU football. Humble, hard working, and fearless. He certainly made many a Saturday over the past few years unforgettable for me. Rest in peace Austin and may the Lord be with him and his family.
May God Bless Austin as He welcomes him Home. And may God Bless you and your family, Craig and Gail, with the Peace and Comfort only He can give.
Gail, my heart breaks for you. You were always one of my favorite patients! In l988 when you were pregnant and awaiting the arrival of Austin....who would have known what he would become. He lived his dream and obviously touched many lives while doing it. I'm sure Dr. Rumph welcomed him into heaven too!!! Prayers continue for peace and comfort for you and your family.
I was born in Enid and graduated from Shawnee High, so I followed Austin's career at OU. Special player and one of my son's favorites as well.He and Austin are the same age. So sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time. May the peace that only God can give be with you. With Deep Sympathy
To the family of Austin no word will help at this time. But as time goes by it will get better. Just remember the great time with him and this will past with time.
Box - You were such a great person, an unbelievable athlete and the most amazing friend anyone could ask for. Most will remember you for lighting it up on the field, but those who knew you will remember you for lighting up the room every time you walked in. Your personality was larger than life, you had an unparalleled sense of humor and your laugh was contagious. You made everyone feel better about themselves and special. You had such an enormous impact on so many and you made everyone who knew you proud. I am honored to say I was your friend. Love you man.
Craig, Gail, Courtney, Whitney & Brittany - My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Austin, you will be missed by this fan. You exemplified what it is to be a Sooner. I am sure you are suited up in Heaven right now helping God's team stuff Satan's rush attack. Rest in Peace, sir. May God bless your family and help them through their mourning.
Dearest Box Family,
While the loss of a loved one is never easy, even when anticipated, it is most certainly the hardest when they are taken from us too soon. Your recent loss of your son who has left us at such a youthful age is certainly in the category of those hard losses for which there is so painful a reminder of what might have been. We offer our sincere condolence and deepest sympathy on your loss. May the outpouring of sympathy, the kind acts of friends and strangers and the comfort in knowing that your loss is felt by many, help you through this difficult time. I ask for God's blessings on you and your wonderful family. May you find the courage and strength to move forward in peace and confidence and in knowing that his was a life well lived. Yours In Peace & Prayer, Travis,Linda,Courtney, & Zac.
I am deeply saddened by the passing of Austin and send my prayers to the Box family and the OU family. You will be missed.
May you rest in peace and with the Lord, Austin. Very heartfelt condolences from Sooners in Minnesota to the Box family. Austin was such a competitor and source of strength. How he'll be missed, not only as a Sooner football player and teammmate, but as a great all-around young man.
May God bless you and keep you, may the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious unto you. May the Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace.
God bless the Box family, friends, teammates and those Austin touched in his life.
Austin, my precious nephew. I know you are resting in The Lords Everlasting Arms. The Lord made you marvelous and you have left a marvelous mark on the world. Love forever, Aunt Cathy
I followed Austin Box's high school and OU football playing career. I was always proud of him. I could tell he had a huge heart and plenty of courage. He was a 6'2", 228 pound "wrecking ball" when he was playing for OU when he was healthy. At Enid High School (where my daughter graduated 3 years before Austin) he was so dominant he looked like a "man among boys". I love you, Austin. God Bless you and your family. And you also have thousands of fans in the Sooner Nation who love you and miss you and are part of your family, too. God Bless. Amen.
" We Gone Keep it Down for You Homie !" God Bless.... RIP.
Box Family, our thoughts and prayers are with you. May Austin watch over you and his teammates forever. God bless,
India Vega - sister of Kenny Stills
God bless and hold you close during such a difficult time. Austin made everyone proud, we the fans will miss him on the field, obviously that cant compare to how he will be missed off of it. God bless.
The LORD is my shepherd,
I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
He restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
To the Box family, friends, former Enid High coaches, the OU coaches, teammates, and Sooner Nation-
My sincerest sympathies and condolences to all of you. I was so proud to watch this Plainsman play football at Enid High. He had the most God given talent that I had ever witnessed. It made me even prouder, as a OU alum myself, to watch a fellow hometown athlete be able to be on the Sooner football team with Coach Stoops. Us "Enidites" were in awe of his capabilities with football and baseball. It was an honor and a priviledge to have seen him play. I was so humbled to be from the same town as Austin, as were many others. Again, all of you are in my prayers.
Go Big Blue & Boomer Sooner
It was such a joy to watch Austin on Owen Field at OU. When he entered the game, you just felt like good things were going to happen for OU. He played with such intellect and passion. You could tell he just loved to play the game and loved the Sooner experience.
Our deepest sympathies to the Box family. Thank you for sharing him with the OU family for a while. Austin will be missed.
He is one of a long list of great Sooner linebackers.
May the peace that only God can give keep you comforted during this time.
My heart goes out to you and my prayer is for comfort to the whole family. I along with my husband, Don, who is now deceased, have been long time Sooner fans. I will miss seeing Austin on the playing field. He was truly a remarkable player and fun to watch.
May God Bless The Box Family. My daughter met the parents of Austin when she worked game day for the FB players parents, she also went to school at OU. she said Austin parents were very friendly & proud of their son. Our prayers are with the Box family and the OU family, we enjoyed watching Austin on Saturdays, Thank you and GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
My sons and I were truly saddened to hear of the loss of Austin. Corey was his teammate at OU and once a Sooner always a Sooner. God has another plan for Austin right now and we continue to pray for strength for you his family and the entire Sooner Nation.
Lean on friends and family now,

Gail and Craig, the grief you must feel is unimaginable as every parent knows. Just know there is an entire community who continues to pray for peace. Just so you know, I have an Austin as well who is athletic and mentions your son at least once a month regarding his accomplishments. He will play his freshman year of football in Garber in honor of Austin and hopes to make him proud.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Box family. I had the pleasure of meeting him at a game and he was truly an amazing person. God Bless!
While I did not know Austin personally, I felt close to him because of his athletic ability at OU. I often grieved when he was injured and could not play because I knew how much he meant to his team and team mates. I know he will be sorely missed because he brought me so much joy watching him lead on the field. God bless the Family, Friends and Team mates he is leaving behind.
Thoughts and prayers to the Box family.
I enjoyed watching Austin in every game he played. He was a warrior, true team player. He will be missed greatly.

May God watch over the Box family during this difficult time. Thank you for giving the Sooner Nation such an outstanding young man for us to watch play football. He will be missed but know that he is in a better place. Austin was loved by so many people and you should be proud of the young man you raised. Marvin and Jana Terrell, Enid, OK

Reading the hundreds of entries in this Guest Book from around the world is a testiment to the wonderful son the Box family raised. Watching him grow through Enid High sports gave all of us Enidites such a sense of pride when he walked on to the OU field. God bless you all! Boomer Sooner!

So sorry for the sudden and unforunate passing.Austin Touched many lives and will be sorely missed. I enjoyed watching him grow threw the years. And am honored to have called him a friend.
Keep the faith my friends. God will get you all through this!
My fondest memories of Austin was when he and his friends supported the Enid High Volleyball team in their "school spirit outfits". They were at every game supporting the girls but the first home Regional game played in Mark Price Arena was the most special. They helped rally the Varsity girls to their first state tournament. After the game they all came on the floor and hugged every one of us. That was awesome!
despite the injuries and shortfalls that came his way and for that i would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart and my family for letting us be givn the opportunity to watch his GREATNESS

Dear Box Family, Its always seems that the best people we know seem to leave us so soon. It is really hard to swallow when you lose someone special and for the people that didn't know personally, we can tell he was sensational young man. I am deeply sorry for your loss. Just remember God always has the 1st pick in his Draft and he always takes the best. God Bless Your Family.
There are not words that can be said in this time of loss. No parent should ever have to go through what the Box family and friends are going through. Mrs. Box you touched my heart the day you brought over the food from you and the staff of Enid High School after my mother passed away. I hope to touch your heart with my condolence. I am so sorry for your famailies loss. I guess the good ones have to leave us early and become angels before we are ready to see them go. I know I miss my mother everyday and will until I join her. I am praying for you, your family and the many friends. You and your family MUST be a strong family to have raised such a great athlete like Austin. He will be missed greatly. I wish you peace and loving memories, they are in heaven but always with us!
Such a loss to the community of Enid, Ok and the Oklahoma Sooners. My prayers are with the Box family. May the Lord give you strength during this difficult time and the times to come. Austin was a wonderful football player and I enjoyed watching him during the Enid High School games as he lead us to a victorious season throughout his senior year. He was the light in his father's eye. I am deeply sorrowful that his life was cut so short. I want to express my deepest sympathy to his family. AC Brown (Enid, OK)
May God's Love bring you peace in knowing that Austin was loved by many. Prayers for Austin, your family, teammates, and friends.
Life is eternal, and love is immortal
& death is only a horizon
& a horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight.
Dear Box Family, my heart goes out to you as your son was taken from you so early. Dear Box Family, my heart breaks as your son was taken home at such a young age. My brother was too at 19. We found ourselves asking "Why"? The answer is: "It is once appointed unto man to die, and after that the judgement....." Our lives are like a song or a poem, with a predetermined beginning and end, predestined by the maker of the universe. The Lord did not give us anything to bear that He does not give the strength to endure. My brother's passing gave me my live's verse. Now I give it to you. Psalms 55:22, "Cast your cares upon the Lord and He will sustain you. He will NEVER let the righteous fall.
I will think of Austin every Sooners game I watch from now on.
I can find no words to express the depth of sympathy. I pray that the short time the Lord gave him to you - the memories of Austin, will sustain you. He was a noble young man, a warrior on the field and a blessing to your family. Godspeed Austin, God's peace to those left behind.
I'm praying for your peace and comfort; I don't have the words for you, but please know like so many thousands and tens of thousands of fans, and friends, we are all pulling for you and support you in this time and in the future. My God, I'm sorry.
MAY THE GOOD LORD SEND THE HOLY SPIRIT TO COMFORT HE WILL!!#12 IN THE PROGRAM #1 IN OUR HEARTS!!!

What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget. You will be missed by many of people but never forgotten.

I was born and raised in Enid right along with the Box family. I didn't know them very well but it means a lot knowing we had similar routes. My dad has been following Austin's career since the very beginning. I remember him showing me some clips of Austin when he was playing at Enid High. We were so proud of him for fixing up and reaching to the top!!!! He was the living his dream!! He was an OU football player earning his degree and it was HIS dream and he did it well!!! He had so much to live for! Most of us will never understand why he had to go right now. It doesn't seem fair. Maybe we will never understand. I pray to trust the higher power that there is a reason why someone so special and so young must go home early. I lost a step-dad and a brother in 1997. My brother was 7 years old. I try my hardest to trust in the God I believe in that if someone has to go home so early, it is because they are so special, they are just too good for earth!! God bless the Box family, all of Austin's friend's, teammates, and anyone I forgot to mention. Healing is a long process that I don't think ever truly ends. I believe in my heart that Austin is home and he is ok! My thoughts and prayers are with you all!!
I grew up in Enid, I was so excited to see a football player from Enid sign a letter to play for the Sooners. My condolences to the family of Austin Box and Sooner Nation.

Shocked and saddened by the news of Austin's passing. Austin is one of my favorite Sooners and I have been reading about him since he was in high school. A bright, sturdy young man with a great spirit and attitude. The kind of young man a father dreams of for a son or son in law. May God bless and strengthen the Box family and the entire OU community. This upcoming season belongs to Austin's memory as he has blessed all of us as fans. May he rest in the arms of the Father, in the Name of the Son.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

How incredibly sad, the loss of another wonderful young athlete. Our sympathy to the Box family and OU. You are in our prayers.
I received two phone calls within minutes of each other from my two sons yesterday, both a little shaken, informing me about Austin. We have been "Austin" fans as early as his Waller Jr High years. I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but my sons and husband knew him. When I gave the sad news to my husband, devastation suddenly veiled his face. We were all in disbelief. From our family to your family, we grieve with you. We pray that God holds you tight and showers you with comfort and peace during this difficult time. May you be lifted up by the many joyful and sweet memories you must have of your son. We will certainly feel an empty spot in our hearts, watching our OU Sooners next fall.

I think I speak for many, that we rooted for a guy that was fraught with injuries and had such talent. Hate to see someone so young so so soon. I really think it's cool that all the other rivalry fans are being kind. Some other post said it best when they talked about the Tornadoes in Tuscaloosa and the flooding that make football take a back seat and make you reflect on whats important in life. I love football more than most but when you boil it all down, it's really just a bunch of men pushing a leather bag full of air across a chalk line. Family and friends, God & country are what matters most.
Thanks to all the support for those of you outside sooner nation. God Bless
rip austin you will be missed.
22 years old, gifted, intelligent, just graduated from OU, starting middle linebacker on a national title contender. This is just so terribly sad. This young man had everything going for him. I hope that his family has the strength to make peace with this. Sometimes as fans it is hard to remember that our teams are so young and we expect so much from them. Austin made a great deal of difference when he came back from his back injury. He had good instincts and could stop the run. His interception against OSU was memorable. Condolences to his family and friends. It is hard to believe we won't see him play again. Austin will be remembered and missed.
The Sooner family has lost a wonderful young man, heartfelt sympathy to his family, friends, teammates, and coaches. It is not for us to judge His timing, we can only assume the good Lord needed a smart, tough middle linebacker in Heaven. I have to say He has one now.
It is a sad time for the Sooner football family and fans, let us all carry on in memory of Austin Box. May he rest in peace.
