When you lost a love one in death. the pain, the grief, and the feelings of helplessness can seem unbearable. at such times, we need to go to God's word for comfort. 2corintians 1:3,4. the bible help us to understand how jehovah and Jesus feel about death.Jesus, who perfectly reflected his father, knew the pain of losing someone in death.

Hi, my name is Cassie Ardern, and Lauren babysitted for me often when I was a little girl in elementary school. To this day Lauren is my inspiration to be a good person and to be strong in my walk of faith with God. Lauren, I admired you so much. You were a young teenager who played games with an 8 year old and enjoyed it at the same time. You would pick me up from swim practice and be playing K-Love constantly. You were so kind and loving to me. I'm 16 now and babysitting, and somedays I don't understand how you did it. I love you like the sister I never had, and I'm sure you felt the same. You are my role model. I don't understand why you're gone, because you would've changed the world. Someday I'll ask you and I'm sure you'll explain it all. I am so certain you are the happiest you've ever been right now, back home with the Father. I miss you so much. So does Snowy :)

I did read the book you wrote for Lauren. I am amazed at your faith. The book was such a wonderful tribute. I lent it to a new communicant in my church, and to another who was having faith problems. Just wanted you to know that you have reached into NJ with your strong faith. I pray for you and Lauren, when I go to Mass. I wish you Peace this Holiday Season. Also my daugher graduated Tech in May 2007

3 years Since Your Passing in April 2007 When You left your Body in This World you will forever live on in heaven
April 24, 2010
Right after the April 16 tragedy occurred, it was mentioned that years later only the shooter's name would be remembered...that most people wouldn't be able to remember the names of the victims. It was suggested that people choose one name and life to remember...I chose Lauren. As a graduate of Virginia Tech, Class of '87, I chose to remember Lauren for several reasons. I also attended Campus Crusade for Christ meetings as a student, and I was touched by watching the videos of her giving her testimony. Even though I never met her, I am inspired by her legacy.

May God bless and comfort Lauren's family and friends...
April 16, 2010
Just a note to the Body of Christ, and especially those who knew Lauren personally, who miss her each and every day:

On the night of His betrayal, our Lord took bread, and after giving thanks, he broke it, and referred to the bread as His body ... and then made a simple request: That each time we break bread, that we remember Him.

He repeated this request after supper. He referred to the wine as His blood, and again asked us ... each time that we drink ... to remember Him.

Jesus Christ lived in Lauren Mccain. He burned bright in her heart. Those who met her saw the love of Christ in her eyes.

Each time we remember Lauren, we remember Jesus ... and we are obedient to our Lord's command to remember Him.
April 15, 2010
I think of you always, and especially this week each year. I'll be in Blacksburg tomorrow with the rest of our Hokies...we miss you all so much.

I have read Lifting Our Eyes many times. I to have a great relationship with our heavenly father. I daily try to share the great message that Lauren shared with everyone. She will continue to bless and touch many lives. I'm thankful for meeti9ng her on two occasions in her life thru her cousins. I was touched by her smile and love for the lord. She was born on the same day as my daugher Elizabeth. Lauren turned 23 on the 20th Dec 2009 and my dausghter is just four years younger. Thanks you for all you have done and with the wonderful parenthood you provided lauren. I know if she had meet this young man she would have changed the outcome of 16 April 2007 (this happens to be my sisters birhtday). I will always have Lauren in my heart and I know she is an angel to many. Just wished the Lord had allowed her to remain on earth to continue her great Journey. God is Good all the time.

I Knew lauren since i was a little girl. She was a mentor to me as well like an older sister to me. She always made everyone smile. It just tore my heart when i found out she was killed.... But then happy because she is now home with god
April 20, 2009
I never met Lauren, but i am very close friends with one of her best friends from here in Hampton. Only good words about her come from their mouths, and everytime they speak of her tears come to their eyes. I can only imagine what she was really like, and how well she effected those around her with the positive and fun attitude she brought. Thoughts and Prayers are with family and friends. We will be seeing you soon once we enter the gates of Heaven.

In April 2007, I purchased a copy of People Magazine, which had an article with individual tributes to those who died. Lauren McCain's words from her myspace account were published and have been with me ever since. I kept the article, and just now have felt the inspiration to write an "Invitation to Salvation" bible study, around her words. Writing Bible Studies for my group, and writing sermons to do at church during special events, has been a hobby of mine throughout high school, college, and now grad school. God clearly had a plan in me keeping and finding this article. His timing is perfect, and Lauren's words will continue to touch people and serve as a tool to invite them to explore the word. I am so glad she decided to follow him. And let me say this- Georgia Tech still grieves with you, Virginia Tech. May God Bless you all.
December 23, 2008
I just finished reading LIFTING OUR EYES, which I purchased several months ago, but never read. My son is a sophomore at VT (he wasn't there in Spring '07), and I wanted to feel more "connected" to those who were lost. Lauren's love of God is astounding. I continue to seek a relationship that is similarly close to our heavenly Father. She has and will continue to touch many lives. Thank you for sharing her story, as well as your own love for the Lord.

I NEVER MET LAUREN BUT I AM A MOM OF 2 WONDERFUL GIRLS. ONE OF THEM SUFFERS FROM DYSLEXIA AND COULD NOT MAKE IT IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM SO I HOMESCHOOL HER AND SOME OF MY FAMILY DOES NOT AGREE WITH IT. IN PASSING AS I WAS READING THE BOOK "LIFTING YOUR EYES" I NOTICED THAT LAUREN WAS HOMESCHOOLED AND WHAT A WONDERFUL YOUNG WOMAN SHE WAS. I ALWAYS WORRY ABOUT THINGS WITH MY YOUNGEST BUT SHE REMINDS ME ALOT OF YOUR LAUREN. HER LOVE FOR THE LORD IS SO EVIDENT TO THOSE AROUND HER AND HE HAS HELPED HER TO SEE THAT EVEN THOUGH SHE IS DIFFERENT SHE IS NEVER ALONE IN HER JOURNEY FOR HE IS AT HER SIDE. I AM SO SAD FOR YOUR LOSS BUT I LOVE IT WHEN YOU SAID THAT THE WORSE SCENARIO FOR YOU WAS THE BEST THING FOR LAUREN. I AM A FELLOW CHRISTIAN AND WHEN I GET TO HEAVEN I HOPE I GET THE PRIVILEGE TO MEET LAUREN AND I FEEL TRULY BLESSED TO HAVE GOTTEN TO KNOW A LITTLE OF HER LIFE STORY. I WILL PRAY FOR YOUR CONTINUED PEACE AND I ASK FOR YOUR PRAYERS AS ME AND MY DAUGHTER CONTINUE ON OUR HOMESCHOOLING JOURNEY.

May 17, 2007
I was flying back home to Ohio when I picked up the USA today newspaper and read your daughter's obituary. It started out with, "Lauren McCain loved the Lord". I automatically started to cry onboard this plane. I could feel an instant connection with her as I read on. I know if we were to have met we would of been very close. I just think, wow, why? She was such a shiney star for Jesus, how much she would of gave Him. I am sorry but I just feel so lost about her being gone. SHe hit me. I just want you to know that she has made such an impact on me. I have told so many people about her testimony.

If I were to die today, I would want the first thing said about me from all the people in my circle to be able to say, "Sherri James loved the Lord".

I will meet her someday and we will laugh and love the Lord together. I am so proud of her and I admire her so much! I have also said if the Lord blesses me with a daughter I would want her to be just like Lauren. And if the Lord blesses me with a daughter I will name her after Lauren. "Well done my good and faithful servant"
In Memory of Lauren McCain.
May 16, 2007

We homeschool, too. I was so touched by the picture of Lauren and her younger sister. You have beautiful children. I wish I could say more to comfort you, the entire country grieves with you, but especially the homeschoolers.
May 06, 2007
To Lauren's family and friends,
Our heavenly father, Jehovah (Ps 83:18) promises at Isaiah 41:10 - "Do no be afraid, for I am with you. Do not gaze about, for I am your God, I will fortify you. I will really help you. I will really keep fast hold of you with my right hand of righteousness". May you grasp hold of his hand and allow him to guide you through the coming days, weeks, months and years.
You may find these scriptures comforting also:
Isaiah 25:8 - "He will actually swallow up death forever."
Revelation 21:4 - "and he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."
My husband was lost on 9/11 and the word of God has been a great comfort to me.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am the sparkle in the snow.
I am the shredded leaves that blow.
I am the sunlight on growing grain.
I am the gentle summer rain.
I am the quiet bird at night.
Circling about; Taking flight.
So do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.

Sherry, David, Robyn, Traci, Chris and families.... I am so heartbroken to hear of your loss. I just received a call this evening that informed me. When I went to look for pictures, I saw Lauren's smile and knew right away she was the one. The resemblence reminded me of the beautiful smile you all carry and the spirit within you. Keep that smile. Keep her shining through your hearts. I will always keep Lauren and you in my prayers.
April 30, 2007
RISE UP SLOWLY, ANGEL

Rise up, slowly, Angel.
I cannot let you go.
Just drift softly midst the faces,
In sorrow now bent low.

Ease the searing anger,
Born in harsh unyielding truth
That Death could steal my loved one
From the glowing blush of youth.

Rise up slowly, Angel.
Do not leave me here alone,
Where the warmth of mortal essence
Lies replaced by cold, hard stone.

Speak to me in breezes
Whispered through the drying leaves,
And caress my brow with raindrops
Filtered by the sheltering trees.

Rise up slowly, Angel,
For I cannot hear the song
Which calls you through the shadows
Into the light beyond.

Wrap me in your downy cape
Of sunshine, warm with love,
And kiss a tear-stained mother's face
With moonlight from above.

Then wait for me at sunset,
Beside the lily pond,
And guide me safely homeward
To your world,which lies beyond.

Just spread your wings and take me
In reunion’s sweet embrace,
And we shall soar, together,
To a different time and place.

To The Family of Lauren McCain-My sympathy goes out to your family. Always look to God's Word for the comfort & strength to help you to endure this difficult time. Revelation 21:3,4 promises that soon sorrow, sickness, & even death will be done away with. Take comfort in knowing that Almighty God Jehovah does care about you and He has the power to resurrect our loved ones.(John 5:28,29)

Lauren was a joy and pleasure to have on our hall. I am honored to have lived with her. She will be greatly missed, but I will see her again someday, she just beat me there! No smile will ever compare to hers.

Sincere condolence's to your family. I did not know her but she looked like she was a fun person. God has her in a safe place now.
April 29, 2007
What a beautiful young Christian lady your daughter/sister/family member is. Is, not was, because we know that our Lord has a glorious place in Heaven for her, which she already enjoys. She will never have to endure any more of the struggles and problems of this life. The people who have known her and who love her have sadness, but it is not the same kind of sadness as those who lack the assurance of the Kingdom of God. Lauren's love for Jesus has gone across this country as a witness to Him and a testimony about the kind of person she had already become at the age of 20. Now she is receiving the reward from Him for her faith. I will pray that all of her family members and friends who have been deprived of her presence for now will be comforted by our Lord in the knowledge of the reunion with her that you have been promised through Christ. May His Holy Spirit lessen your pain and impress upon each of you constantly a sense of joy about her eternal victory.

I know you have your support system, but when you are at the grave and can't leave --Please call me!!!! You only need to hear a voice from someone(that know what you are going thru) to help you out of the dark place you are at ,if for only a Moment.
Your daughter is so very pretty, I'm so sorry her life was cut short.

I just finished reading an article entitled, Comfort for Grieving Parents. In the article it talks about how caring parents work hard to provide for their children. They may regularly set aside money or material goods so as to be able to help their children to start a family of their own in time. This tremendous expenditure of emotion, time, effort, and money points to one conclusion – parents raise their children to live, not to die. When a child dies, the work of raising him/her is incomplete, and the parents’ hopes for him/her are dashed. The warm love and affection that flow from the parents to the child are cut off, blocked by the stone wall of death. The place that their son or daughter once occupied in their hearts is now empty. The parents feel a deep sorrow that is not easily dispelled.

When I read that portion of the article it helped me to better understand the grief that parents often experience. The article is not only emphatic towards parents but it gives some real good suggestions on how to cope a little better with grief of this magnitude. I really think that you would enjoy reading the entire article yourself. So if a friendly neighbor comes knocking on your door with this article, feel free to request a free copy.

Lauren, beloved child of God,I am a minister in Texas; but I served a church in Blacksburg many years ago, and I grew up in Hampton, Virginia. I told my church all I could find about you--about your beautiful faith in Jesus Christ, and how you are now safe in his loving arms forever. Pray for us, the living here on earth, heavenly child of God; and I shall pray for your family, who honored God so profoundly through the loving and beloved daughter that they raised.

What touched my heart the most is what was written on her myspace page..."the purpose and love of my life is Jesus Christ." What an awesome testimony for such a young lady. May The Peace of Christ be with all who had the privilege to know her. God Bless. See you at the gate.
April 27, 2007
Father we entrust our sister Lauren to your mercy. You loved her greatly in this life: now that she is freed from all its cares, give her happiness and peace forever. Welcome her now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold Lauren in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathy.

On behalf of the Members of First Christian Church, in Burlington Iowa, we want to express our utmost condolences at this most difficult time in your lives. May it be a comfort to you and your family and friends to know that you are being remembered right now and in the months to come in the thoughts and prayers of so many. It is our prayer that you will feel God’s everlasting love and presence in this time of sorrow and that you turn to Him for His strength to guide your way through these troubled times. We sincerely hope and pray that your tremendous grief at this time will gradually diminish while the precious memories of your loved ones will last forever. May you find peace in God’s never failing love and care and may God's blessing be with you and your family at this time. It is our fervent prayer that you find strength in the Lord!

Jesus told his disciples, "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." Matthew 5:4
April 26, 2007
Lauren and family, I began to read the pages of your guest book with the idea of expressing my condolences to you. Instead, your witness of faith and strong character have humbled and challenged me to be a stronger person. My prayer is that the Lord of all comfort will indeed comfort you in your heartache. But also by knowing your testimony of faith and courage is a blessing and testimony to others you will find a blessing even in the midst of your sorrow.
April 26, 2007
When I saw your picture, I saw those eyes and that smile and couldn't get past that feeling that I knew you from somewhere. When I got that call from my sister that evening, my heart sunk. Those sparkling eyes and that warming, heart-felt smile...exactly like your Mom's and Aunt Robin's. As I watch the television reports and read the newspaper, I know that you make your family proud and have been a bright light in many lives. I am also sure that you will continue to be a beacon for those same people and for many, many more. My deepest sympathy for the McCain and Pickard families

In the morning, when I rise
In the morning, when I rise
In the morning, when I rise, give me Jesus

Give me Jesus,
Give me Jesus,
You can have all this world,
But give me Jesus

When I am alone
When I am alone
When I am alone, give me Jesus

Give me Jesus,
Give me Jesus,
You can have all this world,
But give me Jesus

When I come to die
When I come to die
When I come to die, give me Jesus

Give me Jesus,
Give me Jesus,
You can have all this world,
You can have all this world,
You can have all this world,
But give me Jesus

What a witness your daughter has been to the world! Now she has met the lover of her life - face-to-face. She sees clearly and understands those things we cannot understand. She is free and dancing at the feet of Jesus. When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be. When we all see Jesus! You were truly blessed with such a daughter, grandaughter, sister, cousin, friend! Savor your memories, they will be so precious to you.

I am very sorry for your loss. I have experienced losses both anticipated and unexpected. When I was fifteen years old in my first year in high school, my mother died of melanoma at age 54 in December 2004; we were anticipating the loss. As with me, I am sure your loss is emotionally stressful for you and your family.

Your grief may ebb and flow. It has been said that each of us has this well deep inside of us that can be filled to the brim with grief. Every time we cry, we empty out some of the well. But the well fills again. The level of sorrow in your well may lessen as time passes, but it will never run dry. There will always be birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and those days when the well seems to fill to its brim again. Allow yourself time to remember and mourn. It is part of your healing. Grief is a continuing journey.
April 26, 2007
Lauren, I am not grieving for you. I know you are so happy and you are worshiping God, dancing with the Angels and throwing your crown at his feet. You will always be remembered and loved. You have influanced so many lives, including my own. You have inspired young people around the world to carry your torch and continue to light hearts for Christ. Although you are now with the Lord your work continues.

Lauren Ashley McCain is a creator of unique
You want cheering up it’s her you’d seek
Her brother is her hero someone she looked up to
She traveled to Germany with her cousin they flew
Pranks involving underwear up in a tree
She loves living by the sea
Language is an easy task for her to learn
She’s so fast pages she burns
A lover of soccer and spiritual light
For her family she’s a star bright
She’s a music junkie a guitar player
But for country music she’s a hater
Lauren is second out of four children, a daughter, a friend who was neat
Remember to constantly use her words like squeat

We will never know why evil visited you, we only know that God's Will be done, and your family and friends in Christ will see you again someday. God Bless your soul, and comfort your family.

No pain in the world compares to losing a child but your faith in the lord and the love of your family will sustain you through this time of loss. I weep for you and your family and I will keep you in my prayers. Deepest condolences.
April 25, 2007
When we lost our 21-year-old daughter, also a college student, in a tragic car crash six years ago we never would have thought anyone would understand the pain we have been feeling. But to Lauren's family, know that there are thousands who know what you are feeling and we know that while the pain will never ever go away, it will gradually ease and you will one day be able to smile again when you think of the times you cherished with Lauren. This is a time when you are feeling tremendous support from people all over the world. Soon you will be alone with your grief and you will need to support each other as never before. Seek counseling; seek out others like you as I am with this message. You will find comfort and strength, and Lauren will remain forever. I wish you all the best in this difficult journey.

TO LAUREN'S FAMILY AND FRIENDS,
FROM FELLOW BRETHREN IN CHRIST AND FORMER HAMPTONIANS...

GOD'S WORD SAYS IT ALL....

But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
I THESS 4:13-18 GOD BLESS YOU
April 24, 2007
Thoughts and sincerest condolences to the entire family. I know that the entire state of Oklahoma mourns with you and I pray that you somehow find comfort in this difficult time.
April 24, 2007
In the morning, when I rise
In the morning, when I rise
In the morning, when I rise, give me Jesus

Give me Jesus,
Give me Jesus,
You can have all this world,
But give me Jesus

When I am alone
When I am alone
When I am alone, give me Jesus

Give me Jesus,
Give me Jesus,
You can have all this world,
But give me Jesus

When I come to die
When I come to die
When I come to die, give me Jesus

I didn't know Lauren, but what a legacy she leaves behind. She stands out in her words that she leaves with all of us here, "The purpose and love of my life is Jesus Christ." What else can be said? Now she weeps for us, as she is experiencing the fullness that we have yet to see! Now she sees Him face to face - to behold His Glory! When we all get to Heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be. She is a light of hope in a world of darkness.

It is so shocking what happened on that sorrowful day
In my prayers you will forever stay
Although we never met and I did not know you
This is a poem for you to say my adieu
It is a shame you can not be with us today
Due to everything that happened I am still in dismay
Now you are up in a better place
We will never forget your honor and grace
Please look over us, protect us from dangers
You are missed by your family and countless strangers
I wanted to let you know you are in the thoughts of many
Condolences and commiserations are aplenty
I bless your family hope they stay strong
In my thoughts they will always belong
I say to you and the other decease
I wish that you all rest in peace
April 24, 2007
Dear family,
Our lives will now be different. We will be missing a great part of us. The one thing we all stride to do in our lives is to, learn from God and bring others to Him. Lauren did that completely through life and through death. Most can say someone glorified God in their life, but with Lauren she was able to do it even when her spirit was danceing in Heaven. You can say you want to be just like her, when all she was doing was acting like Christ. But I smile KNOWING she is talking with God and Praising Him even now while you are reading this she is Praising God.

Dear David, Sherry, and the entire
McCain family,
You are all in our thoughts and prayers. We never met Lauren nor your family (our nephew was a friend of her's from church), but after attending her Celebration last Sunday, we know her family and the world have lost a very special "sister" in Christ. May God's love bring your family comfort and peace during this time of great sadness.
With Christian Love,

You will forever be in the world their prayers, their thoughts, their heart!
April 23, 2007
We are so sorry for your loss.
April 23, 2007
I did not know you or your family. But I don’t believe there is a person in the world whose heart has not been touched by this tragedy. There is nothing in this life that brings us more sorrow than to lose loved ones in death. Even harder to bear is when the lives of loved ones are lost due to an unexpected tragedy. The shock can be overwhelming.
Be assured that God promises that he…”is near to those that are broken at heart; and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.” (Psalms 34:18) Nothing can bring us more peace of mind than the inspired words of… the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulations. (2 Corinthians 1:3,4) Take comfort and solace in the Bible's message as we all await the time when GOD…” will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:3,4)

April 23, 2007
May the Grace of God comfort you in your loss.
April 23, 2007
Lauren was one of the greatest people you could ever know. She treated everyone she met with so much love just as if they were the only person in the entire world. She always had a smile on her face and the great part about it is that when she smiled, she actually meant it. She was a joy to be around and I am honored to have been good friends with her. She was and still can be a role model for us all. She Loved her lord Jesus Christ more than anything else in the world. She truely had a loving relationship with him instead of just being religous. While I am saddened that she is not here with us today, I put a smile and rejoice because I know that she is home, dancing with her Lord.
April 23, 2007
You are blessed to have had a daughter so wonderful and amazing. I never met Lauren, but her words on her myspace page about Jesus Christ being the love her life says it all. I pray that God comforts you all the days of your life. In Christ, The Taylor Family

No bond is as great as that between a parent and child. My deepest condolences are with you as you grieve.
April 23, 2007
I just wanted to let you know that though I don't know any of the victims or families, Lauren has especially stood out because of her obvious faith and living example of God's love. Reading about her and her influence on others has been so inspirational. My youngest daughter asked me why it seems that the good people die young and my only answer for her was that maybe they are so good that their work is done here and they don't need to be here anymore. You did a wonderful job raising an amazing daughter who seems to have touched many lives and continues to do so with her death. My prayers are with you and your family.
April 23, 2007
To the family and friends of Lauren,
My heart just aches for you. My breath is taken away that your child has been taken from you so quickly and without warning. I know that God is with you. He says He is the God of all comfort so I pray that in these days of learning to live without her physical presence that He will give you peace through His presence. May God richly bless you all and bring you peace.
April 22, 2007

April 21, 2007
My heartfelt prayers go out to Lauren's families and friends during these trying times. Lauren lived her faith and now lives eternal with the Lord she loved and served. It was my privilege to work with her in the musical "Two From Galilee" in August 2004 at Liberty Baptist Church in Hampton (I played Joachim, father of Mary, and grandfather of Jesus). Her winning smile, sincerity, and professionalism are treasures I will cherish the rest of my days. I pray the same faith that steered her time on Earth and has now won her an eternal seat in Heaven will encourage those who knew and loved her best to follow her lead. God's love and blessings to you all!

April 21, 2007
Dave and Sherry, Cindy and I are heartbroken for your loss. We were watching a nationally televised program which was showing the photos of those students/faculty who were lost. Lauren's picture appeared and we both commented to the fact, "this young lady looks exactly like Sherry Pickard from high school!" Imagine our shock when we learned our initial reaction was correct. Dave and Sherry, we are here and even though we haven't been apart of each others life since we graduated from McLoud High School, on May 13, 1980, PLEASE KNOW, that makes no difference. We are here and will do anything in this world for you guys. Please know you guys are in our prayers and every waking thought. Even though our hearts ache for you, we are so comforted in knowing as to Lauren's Love for Christ...what amazing parents you all have been. During a time like this, you have comforted many people by the way your beautiful daughter was raised.
Again, all you have to do is let us know and we will be there for you. We Love You and we will forever have a special place in our hearts for Lauren.
God Bless You.

To the McCain Family,
it is great to know that Lauren knew our Heavenly Father...to be absent in the body is to be present with the Lord. I have a son who is away at college and I pray everyday the University to be protected. I still feel your pain and all the other parents pain. It is a wonderful thing how Jehovah allows us to carry one another burdens so that your load will be a little lighter. Continue to look to the hills from which comes your help all of your help comes from the Lord!
April 21, 2007
We are so sorry on the sudden loss of your precious daughter Lauren. Remember the love our Lord has for your family and your Lauren who is now in his care.

To Dave and Sherry and family - Your Lauren made quite an impression on me a few years ago when she and I were in the cast of "Two From Galilee" at Liberty BC in Hampton... No doubt we will look forward to seeing her again in glory.

God bless you!

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Sorrowful tears
well up in my eyes
For those who have fallen
like rain from the skies

Each life was so precious
so many are gone
May they shine now from Heaven
like a new morning dawn

I cannot make sense
of this tragic event
I offer my heart
and my prayers have been sent

Each one had a dream
Each one had a goal
Each one had a family
Each one has a soul

Life must go on
for loved ones so shattered
Reach to their hearts
and show them it mattered

For families so lost
For friends left to cope
I greive for their hearts
I pray for their hope

In memory of those who have fallen and for those left to grieve.
For those left injured in harms way...
I pray for peace and healing of your hearts.
April 21, 2007

A Better Place

Cry for me no more
the many tears of sadness
My time in this world was over
and it came for me to pass.
Bring the photos of old time
and see them not with tear-filled eyes
But with eyes of joy and laughter
and smile once more with me.

Know that I am in a better place
one without disease
without hatred and without death
This kingdom I now call home

I wait here for you
When your time comes to pass
to ease the transition
from the old to the new.

Cry for me no more.
Remember only the laughter.
For I am in another realm
And I wait to see you again.
April 20, 2007
Praying that the Lord would bless your family with a peace that surpasses all understanding and show you His love, strength, hope and comfort during this difficult time. May you see and experience His peace, strength and compassion during this difficult time.

On The Other Side

Here there is pain.
On the other side, healing.

Here there is absence.
On the other side, glorious reunion.

Here there are empty shoes.
On the other side, the feet of
Jesus to sit at.

Here there was not enough time.
On the other side, eternity.

We have felt the love of God
In the hearts of His people.

We have felt the arms of Jesus
In the many, many hugs.

We have felt the comfort of the
Holy Spirit
Through our tears.

Dear McCain Family,

My name is Brandon Kliewer. I was Lauren’s Graduate Student Teaching Assistant for her World Politics course last semester. Lauren was a great student and it was a joy to have her in my recitation. Lauren’s personality and care of others was clearly presented in class. Lauren’s premature death is truly a tragedy. However, I know Lauren’s legacy will continue beyond her time here on earth. Her presence and positive attitude influenced me as well as all the other students in the recitation. I am going to remember Lauren through the positive contributions she made during the course. I know that those personal interactions will capsulate Lauren’s legacy into each and every person that she came into contact with. Words cannot even begin to truly express the tragedy of Lauren’s death. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

We will always remember Lauren's great smile, warmth, and her inner and outer beauty. She was an inspiration at FBC-Portland, as was her family. We do not have the adequate words for such a tragic and senseless loss, but we do know that Heaven's population just grew by one more. And we know we will see that smile again someday. Our prayers and thoughts are with the McCain family and all those at VT. I hope the McCain family knows that there is tremendous support back in Portland (Texas).... We love you.

To the McCain family:
I did not know Lauren personally, but I wanted to pay my respect. I am from the Hampton Roads area and it has affected us all. I lost my best friend 2 years ago, although it in no way compares to losing a child, I know the saddness and greif you all must be feeling. Keep memories of Lauren in your hearts and always remember the wonderful times you had with her. Memories will last a lifetime. GOD Bless your family and may GOD give you the strength and courage to work through this devastating tradegy. "GOD never puts you in it, without pulling you through it".

When you feel Lonely

When a person you love passes away
Look to the night sky on a clear day.

The star to you, that appears to be bright,
Will be your loved one looking upon you
during the night

The lights of heaven are what show through
As your loved one watches all that you do.

When you feel lonely for the one you love,
Look to the heavens in the night sky above.

April 20, 2007

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.

When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

To The Family of Lauren McCain;
I felt I needed to read something about all the victims so I could say a prayer for each of them. When I read what Lauren had said about Jesus Christ I was so moved that I could not stop thinking about it. So often I have tried to find the words to make someone asking about my faith understand. Lauren said it so perfect " I don't need to argue about religion becasue I KNOW HIM" I can't stop saying it. Even though I did not know her she will always be in my thoughts and prayers. I have a young son and I can only pray that he to will be able to express his love for Jesus the way Lauren has to the entire world. I want him to be proud for knowing HIM just as Lauren expressed her love.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and all the the victims and their families.
Thank you Lauren for the words I have so often tried to express but could not put them together. I KNOW you are with HIM right now.
April 20, 2007
To the family and friends of Lauren McCain,

Please accept my deepest sympathies. I can’t possibly imagine what you may be feeling,

Rest now, grieve now, and allow those who know you and love you do what they can to help you through this tragic time.

My thoughts and prayers are with each and every one of you.

We have something in common- a last name and a twenty year old daughter.
I cannot imagine the pain of losing her in such a violent and senseless way. My heart aches for you. Jesus is the "love of my life" too. I know that in time Jesus, Lauren's first love, will bind your broken hearts.
One other thing binds us. I have a niece named Lauren McCain. I received her high school graduation invitation yesterday. She will be headed to college next fall, Lord willing.
I know that I am a stranger to your family, but I feel a connection because of our common names and because of our common faith in Jesus. Our family is praying for you.
April 19, 2007
Lauren was in my 8th grade reading class at Gregory-Portland Junior High. She was a beautiful young lady with a bright future. It was a pleasure to have her in class with that bright smile. She will be sadly missed by everyone that had the fortune of crossing her path. Our prayers are with her family and friends and may God give you strength at this time of sorrow.
April 19, 2007
But we do not want you to be uninformed, brthren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus... therefore comfort one another with these words.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-14, 18

I pray that you may have peace at this trying time. God bless
April 19, 2007

My preys go out to your family. I'm from Portland Texas The year you move to the city I lost my daughter Her name is Ashley Renee James I have a poem that has your daughter’s name on it I would like for you to know that she help me. I still read it and It helps me make it to the next day. I'm sorry for you lost. Here is what you daughter sent to me:

GOD’S CHILD AND YOURS

I’ll lend you, for a little time, a child of Mine, He Said,
For you to love the while she lives and mourns for when she’s dead.
It may six or seven years or twenty-two or three,
But will you, till I call her back, take care of her for me?

She’ll bring her charms to gladden you and, should her stay be brief,
You’ll have her lovely memories as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise she will stay, since all from Earth return,
But there are lessons taught down here I want this child to learn.

I’ve looked this wide world over in search of teachers true,
And from the throngs that croud life’s lane, I have decided… you.
Now will you give her all your love, nor think the labor vain,
And hate Me when I come to call to take her back again?

I fancy that I heard them say, “Dear Lord, Thy will be done.
For all the joy this child will bring, the risk of grief we’ll run.
We’ll shelter her with tenderness; we’ll love her while we may,
And for the happiness we’ve known, forever-grateful stay.

And should the angels call for her much sooner than we planned,
We’ll brave the bitter grief that comes… and try to understand.
April 19, 2007

Lauren, Christmas Day was so much fun. You were so excited about being at VA Tech! Sherry, over Christmas Dinner we teased Lauren about not having a sense of direction and calling you or David on her cell to get directions to her school once she got to Blacksburg. I thought she was fearless to take off to college across the state, with no sense of direction! David, I haven't seen you in years, but have prayed for you throughout your deployments to the Middle East all these years. Your children have been a joy and blessing ever since you married Sherry. My colleagues at Texas Woman's University are carrying you all in their hearts and prayers. My heart broke Monday when I got home from work and got Dad's message. Our prayers and tears continue to lift you up, and we will join you in Shawnee. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

I did not know Lauren, but through links from an Internet story about the victims, I 'found' her "My Space" page. What a comfort and joy it must be to those who knew her that she so obviously loved the Lord with her whole heart. Philippians 1:20-22 says, "I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain."
May the comfort and peace of the Lord, which passes all understanding, be with you.

Love,

April 19, 2007
To the McCain Family,
As a fellow McCain, though unknown to you, we are grieved over the loss of your beautiful daughter, Lauren. Having lost a son ourselves, we understand something of the pain you are experiencing now. As a university professor, I also feel the loss of one whose entire lifetime of contributions to this world will never be realized. As a fellow Christian, I share words that were meaningful to us in our time of loss: "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God" (2 Corinthians 1:3-4). Lauren has been taken from you but she is not gone. She will live on in the things she believed in, the memories she created and the people she loved. Please be comforted in the fact that Lauren has "fallen asleep" and that some day all of God's people "will be caught up with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever" (1 Thessalonians 4:17)
Dr. Danny McCain, University of Jos, Jos, Nigeria.
April 19, 2007
Dave,
After searching for the right words to express how we feel, we realize that such words just don't exist. We do know that Lauren will continue to shine in the hearts and souls of everyone she touched.
April 19, 2007
We love you, Lauren. Our thoughts and prayers, hearts and souls are with the McCains during this difficult time.
April 19, 2007
Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
April 19, 2007
Our hearts are broken by this tragedy, yet overflowing with hope knowing that Lauren is now in the presence of the love of her life, the Lord Jesus Christ. We are praying for her family and for anyone who reads this and has not accepted the gift of salvation from sin through Jesus Christ. "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved." -Acts 4:12 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him." -John 3:16,17 Tomorrow's not promised. Please come to Jesus.
April 19, 2007
Your words have touched me. I hope we can ALL be like Christ. Sincerely, Josefina

I don't know if you remember me but we were friends in Portland, TX at FBC. I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear of your loss. Lauren was a beautiful, godly girl when she was here at FBC, Portland and I have no doubt that she was growing in the Lord as she grew up into a beautiful young lady. Please know that you and your sweet family are in our prayers as well as our entire church family. We will have a special prayer time for you during our Sunday morning worship.
April 19, 2007
To the family, I had the honor of going to class with Lauren at VT. She always greeted everyone with a big smile. I will miss the talks we had as we walked to eat after class, she was interested in everything. She was a great young Lady, she will be missed.
April 19, 2007
I am truly sorry for your loss.
I pray that your hearts and minds will be filled with peace and joy in Christ Jesus. Know that His loving arms are always beneath you...use this as a time to grow closer to Him.

I would also like to add words of encouragement and can't help but say that I am thrilled to know that although Lauren is absent from the body she is present with the Lord and rejoicing in Heaven this very minute! It's good to know that she is not lost forever. I hope that I'll be able to meet her in the future and get to know her.
April 19, 2007
Dear McCain family,

I was looking through the photos of people killed at Virginia Tech. Each face I saw hit me hard. Yet when I came to Miss Lauren McCain and saw that she was a believer...I cried. I went on her myspace...I wept. This girl was amazing...and I didn't even know her. I could tell right when I saw her that I could of been her friend if we ever met. Well I know that we will meet in heaven...And I want a hug:). I know right now that you are at the most happiest, glorious place ever. I mourn for all of you. Heaven is my destination...i just have to remind myself that it's not my time yet and that it was yours. GOD BLESS YOU and all those who died. ALL WHO DIED! From one college student to another...GoodBye

This is a tragedy for all Americans. I know we are thousands of miles away, but we feel your grief and would take it from you if we could. Take one day at a time. It's not true that time will heal. I know that firsthand. But what will carry you is the grace of God and his love that he has for you. And, his strong hand that will gently lead and guide you each day if you trust him. Lean on him for he is strong as we our weak. We're praying for you all that you'll be strengthened and comforted with Gods peace.
April 18, 2007
Thanks to everyone for their loving thoughts and constant prayers. I grieve the loss of my niece. I grieve the heartache that my brother and sister-in-law are dealing with. A parent should never have to bury a child, and yet, that is what we will have to do. We are swept away in this tidal wave of tears.
My source of strength? Knowing that Lauren loved Jesus more than anything. Knowing that I will see her again one day. Knowing that there is comfort to be found if we just know where to look. Knowing our prayers are heard. Knowing we don't have to lean on our own strength.
We will go get our precious girl and bring her home to rest. Our hearts are forever broken.....

Isa 43:1-2,4-5
"Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee...Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life.
Fear not: for I am with thee."

I looked at Lauren's myspace page today and was so touched. My mom is teaching a Sunday school class this week at home in Roanoke and doesn't know how to go about it after such tragedy. I told her about Lauren and she would like to look at her page and talk about her life. Lauren has obviously touched many lives and will continue to even after her passing. I'm so sorry about your loss and am praying for you specifically.

I am so sorry that we had to lose someone as wonderful as Lauren. I remember her as being so strong in her faith at youth group. My deepest sympathies.
April 18, 2007
My thoughts and prayers are with Lauren's family and friends. We all know that God's timing is not our timing, and while Lauren only spent a short time on this earth, God must have known that she had completed His will for her life. He has embraced her in heaven and commended her with the words we all desire to hear one day - "Well done my good and faithful servant". Take the time to grieve your loss - and while time will never completely heal this wound in your heart for you, I pray that you will eventually be able to rejoice in knowing that she's exactly where she would want to be - in the presence of her Lord and Savior! May God bless and comfort you in this time of loss, and may He eventually provide you a peace that surpasses all understanding!

TO GO.”

Father God,
I don’t want to take one step without You. I reach up for Your hand and ask that You lead me in Your way. Thank You that no matter where I am right now… You will make a path from where I am to where I need to be, and You will lead me on it. I love that Your grace abounds to me in that way.

Although we didn't see Lauren after their move to the East it was so good to know that she trusted Jesus as her Lord. Her father, David, is my nephew and I know how much he loved Lauren. We mourn their loss and pray the God will sustain them through this time of sorrow.
April 18, 2007
There are no words that can be said that can explain why. Words of comfort seem to fall short. We can only pray that God will provide the strength to sustain. We want you know that you are in our prayers. I heard from my daughters roomate at RBC what a great person Lauren was. I weep as a father and brother in Christ at your loss.
April 18, 2007
May you be lifted up, and carried in these your darker hours. May you hold her in dear remembrance, able to smile and laugh amidst your tears. She waits for you- know this! Her hope is that you will not suffer, for where she now dwells, is joy and hope- may they be yours. God bless all, family and friends.

I did not know Lauren, but knew instinctively that there was a Lauren or Laurie killed in the fatal shooting Monday (maybe its because my name is so close to hers). Anyway, I want to express my condolences and say I cried tears today when I checked the names of the victims and saw her picture on the OK news and checked out her myspace page. I'm so sorry for the loss of Lauren. There was a song that came to me as well. I felt like she wanted someone she loved to listen to it and think of her. It's "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol. Maybe it doesn't mean anything, but I felt compelled to mention it. I know from what I read that her faith was important to her. I wish all close to her the best memories and encourage you all to continue putting your love out there for her. I am a stranger, and I feel that she was a wonderful person, so I can imagine what a great impact she had on those that loved her. With all sincerity and compassion, I wish you all the best.

To the parents and family:
My husband and I lost our only child, a beautiful young lady, many years ago. It was the worst thing I've ever been through, and I didn't know how life could go on for us, but gradually, the pain has diminished. We're talking about a seven to ten year window, here, so you will have to work through it. The word 'Waves' comes to mind. Over time, they will be smaller and further apart. Don't let anyone try to rush you through your grieving, but DO try to get busy with something to take your mind off of it. Nothing will fill the void of a lost child, but they would want you to move on and enjoy life. The love between a parent and child can last forever, and someday I believe you will see your baby, again. My heart goes out to you and I share a little of your pain, because I know how it feels. No one should have to bury their child, but we have to trust God, who gave them to us.
April 18, 2007
Our prayers and thoughts are with you all. God Bless you.
April 18, 2007
We offer our deepest sympathy and condolences in the loss of your beautiful child. We pray that you will find strength, courage and peace in her beautiful memory.

What a kind and caring spirit Lauren must have been. Words can't express the unspeakable grief you must be feeling, but in comfort, know that God has Lauren locked in His eternal peace and love.

April 18, 2007

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.

When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

To the McCain family,
I only met Lauren once, and she greeted me with a big smile and a kind "hello".
I am a former workmate of her Father, Dave.
I must say that this family is one of the closest-knit families I have ever heard of....from all of Dave's stories he shared.
I am certain that time will help sooth the broken hearts of all the people she has touched in her life. Life is a strange journey, with many turns that we often cannot understand.
God be with all of you.
