May 6, 1946 - Sept. 15, 2017 EDMOND Nonna J. McCorkle, 71, of Edmond, OK, died Sept. 15, 2017, at home. She was born on May 6, 1946, in Oklahoma City, OK to Robert Samuel and Billie Margy Amis. She graduated Midwest City High School, where she was an active cheerleader and involved in student council. She graduated from The University of Oklahoma with her bachelor's degree then went on to obtain her master's degree in education at the University of Central Oklahoma. Nonna was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and recently was awarded her 50-year anniversary pin. Her teaching career spanned over 30 years in the Mid Del Schools, where she was proud to have taught almost 1,000 children to read. Nonna was also a member of the Hearing Loss Association of America for many years. She enjoyed crafting and loved having the chance to be creative. She was an avid fan of OU football and Thunder basketball. Her passion was working with children and focusing on their reading skills. She always had a dog or cat by her side to keep her company. She adored her grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Mimi." Nonna was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by daughters, Lori Burgin & husband Tom and Leslie Dickey & husband Phillip; sisters, Monica Wittrock & husband Kevin and Sammy Bumpas & husband Van; and her five grandchildren, Savannah Burgin, Connor Burgin, Katie Dickey, Travis Dickey, and Kasey Whitson & husband Brock. She is also survived by great-grandson, Knox Whitson; puppy, Stella; many cousins; the Ya Ya's; and her high school group of friends. Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017, at Church of the Servant in Oklahoma City with interment following at Arlington Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hearts for Hearing at heartsforhearing.org heartsforhearing.org

I just learned of Nonna's passing yesterday.What a loss for all of us who knew and loved her. She was a devoted and kind friend and a wonderful teacher. My regards and condolences to her family.

Nonna was a sweet lady, proud that I got to know her pretty good when we went to Cochlear in Florida. She will be missed.
