To Walter

You gave us the news.
It was always to the
point and never jaded.

I was very young when Walter Cronkite was on the news but I liked him even then. Most kids liked cartoons but I just liked Walter. Some of my favorite memories are of my father making me some cereal and turning on the TV so Walter Cronkite was on. He was just familiar and a part of my history. It was like seeing a friend every time the TV was turned on and I liked him. I guess in looking back, it was his warmth and genuineness that came across the air waves. I guess kids pick up on those things. Thanks for the security, good memories, warmth and kindness, Mr. Cronkite. You are part of my history that makes me recall a better more innocent time.

Good night and God bless.

The older I get the more I long for yesterday, yet I know that yesterday is gone and to never to be anymore. The faces of yesterday are being buried one by one. The day of Walter Cronkite's death once again brings us to another goodbye to yesterday. My favorite news anchor from childhood was Walter Cronkite, I came home from school did my homework and watched the evening news as often as I was near a Television set. I remember so vividly him chocking back the tears and removing his glasses as he announced the death of President Kennedy a poignant moment in American History. Mr. Cronkite has been dubbed the most trusted man in news and I truly believe that, that was a very true statement. I missed him when left the anchor desk in 1981 and I still miss him today.

I long for another Walter Cronkite who delivered the news with dignity and refrained from the sound-bite that presently dominates news today. Goodnight Mr. Cronkite and thanks for the memories and we know that we will see you again someday; yet we know not when for we miles yet to travel before we sleep. The world was a better place with you in it and now that you are gone there is a void and that is simply the way it is on this 12th day of September 2009. God Bless the Cronkite Family is my prayer and thank you for sharing your father with all of us......

For Walter Cronkite
"The voice of honesty."

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.
