We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of Capt. Nielson, and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of freedom and liberty. Sadly, America has lost one of its finest heroes, the U.S. has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage, which they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Capt Nielson has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.

To the family and friends, of Capt. Nielson, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to carry on. Just as you were always with him when he was deployed overseas, know that he will always be with you wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Capt. Nielson was a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

"Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid, they have earned our undying gratitude. America will never, ever forget their sacrifices."

Capt. Nielson the flag of the United States of America has your blood sewn into the fabric; it shall wave forever in your honor.

Freedom requires sacrifice the protected will never know.

To the Nielson family and friends, please accept my sincerest condolences. I had just spoke to then 1LT Nielson the week before. We laughed and talked about him waiting until the last minute to complete his base closure items. We laughed and he promised me that when he went to the next base, I would be one of the first people that he called. Even though we never met face to face, his laugh was infectious. My prayers and thoughts are with each and everyone of you. Trust in the Lord and He will see you through.

Roger, Chris & Family--My prayers and support are sent to each of you. I have many fond memories of my nephew Matthew. I recall how he so enjoyed playing Star Wars games w/Nate, reading constantly, and of course, teasing his sisters like big brothers do. He also lent a hand setting the table and chairs for all of his younger brothers and sisters, helping Chris when he could.

He was a young man of deep faith; one who grew close to his God, and drew his strength to be of service to others by his prayer life. He gave the ultimate sacrifice for others; serving our country, laying down his life for all of us.

The example of Matt's unselfishness will not be forgotten.
