To the entire Ross family my condolences in the loss of Ben. Last Friday night was very difficult for me because I had to be out of town and couldn't attend the service. I know Mike explained that but I would have loved to see the rest of the family. The tributes on this page help tell what people thought of Ben. He was a true icon and so respected by so many whether they were ex ballplayers, students , parents or just people that knew him.I was a very young teacher when I went to the Mills and fell under Ben's wing he was an inspiration a mentor and a true friend. I owe so much to him for getting me started in my coaching career and for always being so supportive. We spent many years together and I am happy to say we became close friends. I was able to see him a number of times recently. It was fun remembering the past and the things we had done. He made me laugh when he told me I understood him because we were the same age. I will always remember the way he touched my life.

My condolences to the Ross family. Ben instilled in all of us the true ethics of hard work no matter who our competition was. There was nobody in his mind that we couldn't beat, and he got the best out of us. Till this day I think of him. God bless you Coach. Jerry Spaziani, class of 1967.

Ben was an inspirational coach that I admired, loved and feared at times. He was gifted at elevating the performance of atheletes that he coached. He taught us to work hard and sacrifice to meet our goals. I remember vomiting after completing a 440 race and Coach Ross remarking, "Nice work Curtis; that means you left it all on the track." Ben played pick-up hoops with my father, Bob Curtis. Dad thought the world of Ben, as well. They both valued integrity and honor. They saw the world in black and white; not shades of gray. Ben will be missed. He was one-of-a-kind. My condolences to the family. I'm sure that you'll be hearing many "Ben stories" from those whose lives he so postively touched.

My condolences to the Ross family on Coach Ross's recent passing. My memory of Coach goes back to fourth grade at the old N.Y. Mills School on Main Street; he would have us lining up backs against the wall before going down the stairs to the gym. Having him through my senior year I saw a man, who enjoyed his job working with kids, was a tactician, expected 100 percent and more out of you, was respected by all and if it wasn't broken it did not need to be fixed, if the opponents could not stop a 44 dive you continued to run it. It was this that made me follow Coach into the Educational field becoming a Physical Education teacher, Coach, and Athletic Director. There were many times either during practice or in a game I would ask myself, what would Coach do now. I have many fond memories of Coach of what he said and did that I will cherish. Rest in peace Coach.
