Bette Learned Obituary

ONEIDA >> Bette Jean Learned, 80, of Washington Avenue, passed away early Tuesday morning, Dec. 23, 2014, in the Oneida Healthcare Center, where she had been a patient for the past three days, following an illness of several years.
Born in Canastota on April 20, 1934, she was a daughter of John and Grace Rhinehart Stoner. Mrs. Learned was raised in the area before moving to Hancock and returning in the summer of 1977. She was educated in Canastota High School. Bette Jean married Howard A. Learned Sr. on March 3, 1951 in Oneida. Mr. Learned died on June 29, 2013.
Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Learned was employed with the Oneida Indian Nation and was formerly employed with the Anaren Microwave Company. When she was able, she attended St. Agatha's Church. She was a former member of the Women of the Moose, Oneida Chapter 272 and enjoyed crossword puzzles. Bette Jean truly enjoyed being with her family and taking care of everyone.
Surviving are: three daughters and two sons-in-law, Charlene Cook and her companion Tom of Palatka, Fla., Kathryn and Jack Downton of Starrucca, Pa. and Diane and Ed Barker of Oneida; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Howard "Hal" Learned Jr. of Windsor, Richard and Joy Learned of Missouri and Michael J. Learned of Oneida; ten grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sue O'Herien of Oneida and Lois Manaseri of Florida; one brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Sharon Stoner of Canastota and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, at the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main St., Oneida. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to noon, prior to the funeral service. Contributions may be made to the Extended Care Patient's Fund, c/o the Oneida Healthcare Center Foundation, P.O. Box 705, Oneida, N.Y. 13421. I am so sorry for your loss. Now she she is in heaven with my mom, Dawn Brown, aunt Elle, her mom, Grace and her sister Mary Brophy and her husband Howard. She was a beautiful woman inside and out.

I worked with Jeannie at the Oneida Nation Bingo Hall on rt#46. What a wonderful person she was.....always smiling and kind to everyone she met. It was a pleasure to have had the chance to know her.
