Macias Sr. Adolph G., long-time Anaheim resident and business owner, Adolph Macias Sr., passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 21st at Anaheim Regional Hospital surrounded by his family.
Known for his winning smile, large personality and "baby blue eyes," he opened Adolph's Crown Styling barbershop on La Palma in 1966. Over the next 50+ years Adolph met customers from all walks of life, including such notables as Harry James, Nolan Ryan and Walter Knott, whose wife would accompany him to supervise the haircuts.
Born on January 23rd, 1927 in Riverside to Mariano and Maxemina Macias, Adolph lived through the depression years as he and his five brothers and six sisters would travel with the family throughout the Riverside and Orange County areas to pick oranges. He never lost the work ethic learned during those difficult times as he became a successful business man.
A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, Sergeant Macias served with the Army 2ND Infantry Division and was posted in Japan for a while, but he didn't talk much about those times. His brother, Pete, who was killed at the end of WWII, is buried in Lorraine, France.
Adolph and his wife of 65 years, Virginia, enjoyed big band music and were an attractive couple on the dance floor. They enjoyed traveling to Europe, Mexico and within the United States. He is also survived by sons, Adolph Jr. (Christina), Arthur (Victor), Brian (Dora), Mark (Marissa); daughter, Nancy; and granddaughter, Virginia. He was pre-deceased by son, Ronald.
