McGurr, Agnes (Aggie), 84, of Huntington Beach, passed away at home on Feb. 15, after a short battle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
She was born on Jan 6, 1933, in Akron, Ohio. Agnes received her nursing degree from St. Thomas Hospital in 1954 and married Robert J. McGurr in 1955. Their three children, Margaret, Marie and Robby, were born in Akron before job opportunities moved the family to Illinois, New Jersey, and eventually California in 1973.
She worked as an RN for more than 50 years including at local hospitals Hoag, Huntington Beach, and Pacifica before ending her career at Kaiser. Aggie served as president of the PeriAnesthesia Nurses Association of California. Colleagues describe her as a great friend, mentor and role model.
Aggie was involved in her community and supported her children's activities. She was the team mother for several NHB Junior All-American Football teams and coordinated the Drama Booster Club at Marina High School. Her children's friends remember her kindness and warmth. After her children were grown and she retired from nursing, Aggie worked as an extra in movies and television, eventually earning SAG membership.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Marie and her husband, Robert. She is survived by daughter, Margaret McGurr and son-in-law David Perry; son, Robby McGurr and daughter-in-law Sky, and Robby's son Brennan; plus many cousins, nieces and nephews.
In describing her life, Aggie said she had loving parents, interesting siblings, a good husband, three wonderful children, and the most handsome, smartest grandson.
Funeral Mass will be held on Tues, Feb 28 at 10am at St. Bonaventure Church in Huntington Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Huntington Beach Youth Shelter.

Dear Robby, I was so saddened to learn of Aggie's death. I was out of town on the 28th or I would have been at the mass. She was a great lady who raised a great son. You were always one of my favorite Village View students & again at Marina. Aggie was a great supportive mom and I enjoyed getting to know her and working with her on school projects. Take comfort in all the good memories.I still live on Doyle Dr. Come see me.
