JOHN GODLEWSKI Obituary

Godlewski, John S., passed away January 27, 2014 after a brief illness with non-smokers lung cancer, with his wife Mary by his side.

John was born in 1953, one of 5 children, raised in the San Gabriel Valley, later moving to Fullerton. He eventually moved to the City of Orange where he lived until the time of his death.

John attended Cal Poly Pomona and started his career in City Planning with the City of Fullerton. He then went to the City of Orange where he worked for 13 years. He eventually made his way back to Fullerton where he retired as Community Development Director with a total of 15 years there.

He was well loved and respected by those he worked with, both in the office and in the community. He was a team builder, a motivator, a communicator, a mentor and a friend.

John was also a fisherman, a woodworker, an inventor, a chef, a comedian.

He was one of the good guys and has had a great impact on all those around him.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Murphy Godlewski - the love of his life. They were blessed to have 15 very special years together. He was also a loving and devoted son and brother. Survived by his mother, Helen; sisters, Maryanna and Jeannie; brothers, Ed and Rob; many nieces and nephews; and countless friends. He joins his father Ed in Heaven.

A celebration of his life is being planned for Sunday, February 23rd at the Fullerton Community Center.

Donations can be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, the Lung Cancer Alliance or any other chosen charity.

I will remember John as someone who always had a smile on his face and passed it on to those he encountered.

I am so sorry for your loss. I will really miss saying "HI" when we see you both out walking in the evenings. I met both of you when we worked for the City of Orange. John worked in the Planning Dept. and I worked in Public Works. He always seemed to be smiling and would have something funny to say that would lighten up some of the most trying situations. He will definitely be missed and my prayers are with you.
