I only recently learned of Chuck's passing, upon my return to Portland after being away for several years. My sincerest condolences to Mary Lou and the rest of the family, and Chuck's many friends.
About two weeks after I moved into my newly-purchased house across the street from Chuck and Mary Lou in 1998, I found that I had a flat tire on my truck. Chuck was outside and noticed my dilemma. He immediately came over and offered to change my tire. Then he gave me the name of a local tire business to get my tire fixed, said to let them know he had sent me, and told me they would take good care of me. And they did!
4 ½ years ago when I was getting ready to rent out my house so I could move to Minnesota to help care for my elderly mother, Chuck, without any fanfare, slipped me his business card and told me to call him anytime if I needed help with anything at my house. I kept his card on my refrigerator, because I knew I could count on him to follow through if I ever needed to call him for help.
Since i moved back into my home a couple of weeks ago, I really miss seeing and talking with Chuck. His absence leaves a big gap in the neighborhood. He was such a delight to be around. He obviously loved and was so proud of all of his children, and wanted the best for his family, friends, and neighbors. I will always remember his kindness and joy for life. Rest in peace, dear neighbor.

Grandpa Chuck,
I will miss you dearly! I'm glad I saw you before you passed...just wish I would've visited more often. You were a great husband, father, grandfather & great-grandfather. Your legacy & memories will live in all of us!...until we meet again!

The greatest legacy your dad has left you with is clearly that of love, seen in the beautiful tribute written in his memory and in your acts of devotion that I so recently witnessed. Truly you are the wonderful family of an unforgettable man.
