Charles was a relentless gentleman and scholar. He will be missed.

During my freshman year as a music major at Lewis and Clark College, Charles was the superb teacher of one of my first music classes. I left to go to Portland State after my sophomore year, and began studying piano with Charles. He was an excellent, thoughtful teacher and a brilliant pianist. We became good friends and even though I moved to New York, we remained in touch all these many years. Charles was a caring man, funny, giving, and smart. I'll miss him!

I had the pleasure of working with Charles at the Community Music Center for several years. He was a convivial man who made friends with many of the staff, parents and students at CMC. He was also an expert classical pianist and well-organized administrator who laughed easily and truly enjoyed life. He could be cantankerous and sometimes overtly competitive, but these traits turned out to be more interesting than scary. I'll miss Charles!
