D'Averil lived a life full of adventure and exploring. As a child I was in awe of her spirit and looked to her for guidance as I grew up to be the person I am today. I would like to say that she was intensely proud of her children, her grand children, and her great grandchildren. She maintained her friendships with many people she met in her travels of life. She is also survived by her ex husband, David, my father and his wife Helen, whom she maintained a friendship with until the end of her life. She was always encouraging to us, telling us to always ask questions and not to fear what other people thought of us. I miss her incredibly and wished I could have had more time with her.

D'Averil spend the last 5 months of her life being lovingly cared for by the Kaiser Palliative and Hospice Care Programs and a wonderful care provider Josie. D'Averil donated her body to OHSU for medical research and so her body is is currently in service to their program. When her remains are returned, around Summer 2015, we will carry out her wishes for her ashes to be scattered at the Lava Beds National Monument and for a marker to be placed next to the grave of her great aunt, Clarissa West in Mt. Laki Cemetery in Klamath Falls.
Anyone wishing to, may also attend some group memorials happening soon in Portland (contact me and I'll give you more info).

2) OHSU Body Donation Program Annual Memorial 3:30 PM Friday Dec. 6
During the last years of D'Averil's life, she was almost entirely focused on her grandchildren, particularly Avondre, Alim, and Rayhan. I had a lot of contact with her as a result, and want people to know that she loved so many people very dearly. She frequently and quite wistfully remembered people, telling stories about many experiences. She was a very grateful person, very thankful for her wonderful life and friends. She had a way of letting her fun-loving spirit seek adventure and find humor and beauty everywhere. I miss her a lot and am also thankful for all those who loved her.
Love, Shoshana

Dee was so forthright, her heart spoke out loud always, and although she was soft spoken and gentle in her manner, she was invincible in her courage and her absolute intolerance for injustice, bigotry, ignorance and evil. Thank you for teaching me to walk right down the middle of the road, dear friend. I shall miss you so very very much.

What a wonderful soul a beautiful humble human being. A deep dedicated woman from whom I learned and love.
