I was very saddened to learn of Don's passing. He was one of my very favorite people. He befriended me when I was a new instructor at the University of Oregon. I will never forget his kindness. My sympathy to all of his family.

I thought it was cute when Grandpa wanted me to be his pen pal and we exchanged a letter or two. My Husband Todd Van Rossen always spoke so highly of him when we were dating... and this happened years later after we were married. I wish I got to spend more time with him.

It was an honor to be on Coach Van Rossen's Frosh (1961-62) and Varsity (1962-63) teams. He was an excellent coach and inspired me to strive to always work hard and do my best in the pool and in life. We will miss him greatly.

I took classes from Coach Van Rossen in 1961-62. While somewhat strict in his grade requirements, I saw a softer side. Although I didn't quite measure up to his high standards, he did certify me as an instructor because "...you've got too much chlorine in your blood not to be a swimming instructor." That certification opened the door to summer jobs which helped pay for my education.
