Coming across this notice shocked and saddened me. I was friends with her sons during high school. I have always remembered how kind "Mrs. Captein" (Betty) was, always friendly, always encouraging us in our musical endeavors - even when we were blasting away at unreasonable volume levels in her basement. I lost touch with the family many years ago, but never forgot her smile. I hope she was a grandmother; she would have been good at that. My condolences and best wishes to the family.
BETTY AND SKIPPY WERE ALWAYS A REALLY CHARMING PART OF OUR DAILY WALKS. SHE WAS A BEAUTIFUL LADY AND THE "DOG FOLKS" WILL MISS HER.
Betty was a delightful traveling companion - always up for an adventure and ready to celebrate with a drink and sparkling conversation. She will be missed.

It is hard to describe the vacuum left by such a sudden loss of a special friend as Betty. She lived a long and full life and used every second of it well. All good memories.
Betty was a dear friend. She and Hank joined my husband Lee and I for many get togethers over the years.
I will miss her.
With sympathy and deepest condolences to Betty's family.
My parents and I send our condolences to David, Don and your families. Your Mother was such a wonderful person. I will always remember when we were young, she was always there to drive us to go camping and fishing . And always with a smile.
She was indeed a very special person and I was fortunate to be her friend for almost 60 years. I will miss her very much. Kathy Gross
My condolences to the family of Betty Captein. I met Betty and Henry at their cabin above Rhododendron about 25 years ago. They had me perform many repairs to the place. I have fond memories of the cabin and of the Capteins.
Betty was one of my most beloved and cherished friends. In life, you are given a chance to know a few extraordinary people, and Betty Captein was mine. I miss her deeply, but am so grateful for the opportunity to know and love her well.
Betty will always occupy a special place in my wife and my hearts. Over 30 years ago we were trying to find our first house. We looked at many, many houses and just couldn't find the right one. It was very frustrating because we would explain what we wanted and then the realtors would take us out to houses that were nothing like what we described, often in areas that we had not said we wanted to live in.
We drove past an Open House sign and luckily stopped in. Betty was running the open house. It wasn't what we were looking for, but Betty asked what we wanted. I was very dubious, based on past realtor experience, but we outlined what we wanted for Betty.
She actually listened! Within a week she had exactly what we wanted in one of our first choice areas (West Hills).
As I said it was our first house and she was extremely helpful through out the whole process of buying that house.
We've thought of her often over the years and happy that she lived a long and interesting life. SHE WAS A SPECIAL PERSON!
