Thinking of you on your birthday, as I do every day. Your life was a gift to all of us.
A year ago we said goodbye. The life that seemed impossible is unfolding. Memories sustain those of us who will always love you.
You always knew what to say. You always knew what to do. I pray you will guide us all. We miss you and we need you.
Thank you for the wonderful husband you were to my sister. Debra
Not a day goes by that I don't remember you.
Love you. Miss you every day.
Nancy, Ante and Nels, I was so grieved to hear of Fred's illness and death. I know Neil and I always thought highly of both of you and it always brightened our day to see you at church with the children. May God comfort and sustain you all thru this time and the good memories win out.

I found this photo of Fred on assignment for the college newspaper, The Mustang Daily. This was for a story about some students who went skydiving in Taft, CA. Fred, the reporter is on the far right. I, the photographer, am second on the left.
Nancy, Ante and Nels: we were so sad to hear of Fred's passing - and will always remember him as a warm and thoughtful person, dedicated to his family and community. Our prayers for comfort go out for you.
John, Kathy, Peter, Jack and Alex Stephens
Just thinking about those days working with Fred and the Mustang Daily Family make me smile. Peace to you, Fred, and to your wife, sons and all those who will miss you.
Fred, too many years have passed since we were at Cal Poly. You taught me many things -- most of them related to journalism. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family.
I was so sorry to hear we lost Fred, Nancy. I'll hoist a drink to him, though it will not be as good as that potent plum liquor he shared with me after your wedding. You both figure prominently in my good memories of what I think of as "my copy desk."
I was one of Fred's photographers while a student at Cal Poly. I am sorry to hear about his passing. He and I were one of the Freshman to work on the student newspaper, The Mustang Daily. He was a reporter back then.
Our deepest sympathies to you, Nancy and to Nels and Ante. Your husband and father was a wonderful man and I cared deeply for him. I can still hear his laughter from Cal Poly days 40 years ago. He was the newspaper professional I hoped all students would become. Rest in peace.
Jim Hayes, Los Osos, CA
I'm sorry to hear about Fred. He was the first editor I worked for at the Mustang Daily. He was always patient, kind and professional while I learned the ropes. I'll always remember him fondly.
I am so sorry to hear this. Fred and I attended Cal Poly and worked on the Mustang Daily at about the same time and we shared quite a few beers and many laughs. It's been way too many years since we last spoke, but Fred was a passionate journalist and his wicked wit was second to none. My sincere condolences to his family. Just know he was special to many of us, one of a kind. - Bob Cox
Fred was a fellow Journalism major at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. I was a year ahead of him and will always remember his love for journalism, his quick wit and his love of sports. He was a great journalist and a good guy. My condolences to his family and friends.
My deepest sympathies go out to Fred's family. I first met Fred in junior high school and some of my fondest memories are when the two of us would engage in a battle of wits. He was one of only a few that I have met that could give back as fast as you gave. Here is to Marx Brother's movies and using 36 rolls of toilet paper to t.p. Mr. Buchanan's house. You will truely be missed my friend. Mike Trujillo.
Fred, my old friend, I have lost so many family and friends to this disease, including my beloved Rebecca, my wife of 32 years, all my thoughts to your family. Your old friend, Craig Carney
Deepest condolences and sympathies for the loss of Fred. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Vulin and Jelenic families in this difficult time.
I was one of many nurses who took care of Fred during his many stays in the hospital. Fred was an amazing man and I feel so blessed to have known him and care for him. Hugs to Nancy, Ante and Nels. Fred will be truly missed!
Can't think of a more gentle soul, with fast wit and intelligence, and the right life-time companion for you than Fred. How many times you must have seen that twinkle in his eye when he knew he had pulled one on you. I'm sorry that we lost contact in recent years but always had fond memories of our short time together.
I was a classmate of Fred's at SPHS class of 1973. He always had a smile on his face, and made sure he put a smile on others. A great guy! Sending positive thoughts to his friends and family, to help through this difficult time.
So sorry to hear the news. Our hearts are with you and your family. The Vulin family was a big part of our lives while growing up.
My deepest sympathy to the whole Vulin family. Rest in Peace Fred, you will long be remembered!
Nancy, Ante, Nels--have loved you as long as I've known you. Boys, take care of my dearest friend.
Nancy,I worked with Fred on the Mustang Daily when Fred and I were both students at Poly. The last time I saw Fred was at my 30th birthday at our house in Panorama City. I was trying to put together a college
reunion of sorts in Ventura next spring and had been in contact with Fred. I had no idea he was ill.
My sincerest condolences to you and your boys on the loss of your husband and father.
We're so sorry. Our thoughts are with you, Ante & Nels. I know your love for each other, and those sweet and funny memories the four of you shared, will get you through this sad time.
In gratitude for Fred's exquisite kindness, gentle soul and charming wit.
May your faith be a comfort to you during this horrific time. Fred lead an extraordinary life and though he will be sorely missed he was truly blessed to have such a devoted wife and two fine sons.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your sons. My deepest sympathy.
Dear Nancy, Ante and Nels, we are so very sorry for your loss. Our hearts and prayers go out to you. Christine, Johnston and Carmen Mitchell

My deepest sympathies for you and your family. I'll be sending you positive thoughts and energy to help boost you through this difficult time. Recently, whenever I have been in my back yard, I'll look towards your house and hope all has been going well for Fred. May he rest with peace now.
