I am so sorry for your loss of such a wonderful man. My childhood memories of Bill will remain with me forever. He had such an infectious smile & laugh. He had a way of making you feel as if you were one of his own children. Bless you Bill for showing us all that love can be spread with smiles, hugs and just being kind to one another.

He was the kind of Dad every girl,(woman) should have. Loving, silly, happy, generous and very involved. I have wonderful memories of him sitting at his desk at Dehen's asking Mary and I about our day when we'd pop in. He loved to tease. He had a great life. He will be missed terribly. Jayne

Dad was, simply put, The Best Dad in the World. He gave us abundant love, support, guidance and advice. He was loving, funny, kind to everyone, super smart, and generous of his time. He was always planning the next trip to Europe or Hawaii or someplace new. I can still hear him whistling as he walked down the hall at 7242. He gave us all so much. He gave us Rockaway, my most favorite place, where the happiest of memories were made...and are still being made. Every time I sit on the deck, I think of Dad and how fortunate all of us are to have had The Best Dad in the World. I love you, Dad, and miss you so much.

Bill Dehen is my father in law and Mary is my wife. Over the years I have many, many warm, fond and humorous memories of Dad. I would like to mention a few - Manhattans up with a twist, dinners at Ruth's Chris and the Ringside where he taught me to savor the taste of a quality, rare-grilled steak, loyal fan and reader of the Wall Street Journal, treasure trove of old Portland stories, his lilting voice and full laughter, early morning rides in Sunriver with me to get the newspaper during which we conversed about any number of topics, hours upon hours sitting on the deck at Rockaway where he never failed to say, "This is the best." I can still hear him say, "Oh Lou......" He always asked me questions about my work and was genuinely interested in what I had to say not just about work but whatever we were talking about. He loved a good story or yarn.He always made me feel important and appreciated. He was my father in law, my friend and I loved him. Frank Scotto

I did not have the privilege of working for Bill, but I did work with some of his children, two of his grandchildren, and his son-in-law...and I am certain they reflect the very nature of Bill ..... I saw Bill's heart in Dan, his soul in Pete, his care and kindness in Liz, his unselfish nature in Jim, his humor and brains in Mike, his sweetness in Maggie, and most recently I've seen his love of family in Brian.
My heart goes out to all of you. I hold you all in prayer.

I remember meeting both of your parents; I think it was freshman year (such a long time ago). They took us out to dinner - real food at a real restaurant! They were so lovely and kind and open to meeting all of your friends. They treated us like the grownups that we thought we were (but really weren't) and gave us a taste (both literally and figuratively) of having loving parents nearby, something I think we all could use from time to time. It was a privilege to meet them!

I'm so sorry to hear that your father passed away. Your father was a great man, very open-minded and with an outstanding personality. I always admired his spirit of experiencing “the taste of Europe.” We enjoyed visiting with your parents when they came to Germany. We shared long talks and even took excursions together. Even with getting older they were quite energetic and vivid (even when Bill was in the Zurich Hospital with appendicitis). The last time I saw your parents was in Baden Baden when they were too frail to travel to Überlingen. Liz, Mary and I went to the spa together with your parents, and afterwards Bill showed me his new German Passport. He was so proud.
We remember all the good times we shared with your father, representing a generation of the past. It is comforting to know that he had a rich and happy life, and that he was amongst his beloved wife and children till the very end of his long life. He will live on in our hearts.

Our thoughts are with your Mum and all the family during these difficult days. With Love, Esther, Eberhard, Lucas and Rebecca

Bill Dehen was an amazing man who had a great influence on me as a father. Raised by a single mom, I grew up to marry the youngest Dehen daughter and live in the Chicago area. Through our talks and visits, Bill constantly reminded me of what was most important (family). He was fascinated by the world around him and loved to hear about other people. My deepest condolences and love to Lou and all of the Dehen kids.

I'll always remember playing dress-up and putting on self-written plays for Grandma & Grandpa at 7242 with Madeline, eating BBQ chips with Grandpa, and so many holidays spent with the whole family. Grandpa was a wonderful man who did so much in his life and he will be missed very, very much.

My Dad, son of an immigrant, child of the depression, a real self-made man, not born into privilege or wealth, and yet managed to become a great success in life - mostly as a husband and father, but certainly as a businessman. "Though a man like this need not claim to be a hero or be worshiped as such, there is a genuine heroism in his struggle and something of sublimity and glory in his triumph. Every instance of such success is an example and help to humanity." RIP Dad. You are loved and will be sorely missed. Your loving daughter, Joanna
