Henry Marshall Obituary

Henry John
'Marshall' Marshall
June 22, 1941 - May 16, 2017
Henry John Marshall, "Marshall", passed away May 15, 2017 at his home in Palm Springs, Calif. He served in the U.S. Navy and was an elementary school teacher for nearly 30 years in Washtucna, Wash. and Portland.
Marshall's true passion was art. Recently, he was painting vibrant, impressionistic landscapes.
He created a family of friends wherever he went: his walking group (the Front Runners), his local Starbucks, and John's restaurant.
His lively sense of humor never failed him. As a good friend noted, "We could never seem to run out of conversation."
He is survived by siblings, Clyde and Ola; niece, Morgen; nephew, Gerrit; and close friends, Terry and John.

Marshall and I were great friends in art school at Central. We lost track of each other after graduation he went to Washtucna and I to Onalaska. He was an exuberant, talented painter. I've search for him on a number of occasions but to no avail. I'm saddened by his passing. RIP, Marshall. Roger Stephens

So sad to hear of this news. I taught with Henry for several years at Mill Park and loved his wit and energy. I was sad for me when he retired, but so happy for him. I knew he would enjoy making art wherever he went. He was always inspired for more creations. He will be missed.

Henry was a bright spot in our Mill Park world. His gift of art and laughter made our world and children's lives brighter!

I taught with Henry at Mill Park. Budget cuts and testing didn't hamper him from filling kids with a love for art. I will always remember the beautiful clay salmon he taught students to create. And our school still has the fantastical mural that he helped kids design and paint. He could always make the staff laugh and feel a part of his family. And his cheesecakes--oh, my! He will live on in the hearts (and arteries!) of all his students and colleagues.

So sad to hear of Marshall's passing. He was a wonderful man, and the world will be a little less rich with him gone.
