My thoughts and prayers are with the extended family of Jim Graham Welty. Jim was a friend and mentor to me. My last visit with Jim and Norma was a wonderful time to review many good times.

I love the photo in the obituary...it captures the amazing Mr Welty that I recall from having first met him through his daughter, Diane. I recall his contagious enthusiasm, a positive energy, a friendliness that made me feel welcome regardless of my shyness, and of course the wonderful musical talent that so many have mentioned in their entries as well. It's clear that he lived his life in a way that made a positive impact in the lives of so many whose paths he crossed...as such, he continues to be an inspiration and his music and energy continue to live on. My condolences to all in the Welty family. You are in my heart and prayers.

I studied organ with Jim during my college years. He radiated joy and
enthusiasm in his teaching. I last saw Jim a few years ago at Mary's Woods.

He made the organ sound like the lightest and tiniest of silver bells, and could then transform it on a whim to a fanciful improvisational carousel in a park, and continue right into a thunderous, rapturous cacophany that could only be derived straight from the book of Revelation. Jim was a showman, a brilliant musician, a lover and follower of Christ. He impacted my family's life tremendously, offering friendship, musical guidance, and setting a standard that has never quite been possible for any other organist-choirmaster to quite achieve. I'm so thankful that he and his family were such an important part of our family life at First Presbyterian. His music at my wedding almost 39 years ago truly made the event a Holy one. I picture the angels flanking the organ as he leads them in song.
