Norm was truly "a man for all seasons:" well educated, he was a great conversationalist, well informed, not afraid of controversy and enthusiastic for his causes. He was a motivated individual who obviously set high moral standards for himself and his family. A great speaker, he could captivate an audience of two or two hundred and you always walked away wishing you didn't have to. And no one could tell a funny story better than Norm; he always left you with a smile on your face. He was one of those few who made a difference in the world, leaving it a better place than he found it; an admirable legacy. Many benefited from his life and work and many will miss him. My love to Barb, his constant companion, helpmate and 'sidekick,' and to his family.

Barbara & Family, I want to express my sincerest condolences at your loss of your Husband, Father and Friend. Although I wasn't a student of Norm's (I was a Duck)... I did learn much from him. He was a very complex character, student, educator, and family man. He took time to be very well prepared on issues we he came to a Wheat Commission meeting. Norman did not like to be argued with because he made a strenuous effort to be prepared. I respected him greatly for this trait; he was an academic, scientist, teacher which all did him well as an extension agent helping us farmers. Norm was a consummate family man. He took care of his Aunts estate when she was ill and pasted. He made sure all was right.
So Norm taught me to pause and look at everything that makes the person and enjoy want you see. Norm's probably telling St. Peter a joke right now... then giving him an agronomy lesson.
I won't be at your memorial service; I'm helping another 87 year young farmer get his harvest in... but I will be there in thought. All my best to you all and God Bless Norman, and family.

Jack
