Nichols, Robert James 69 June 19, 1946 Nov. 10, 2015 Robert "Bob" James Nichols left this life for an eternal one Nov. 10, 2015, in Aloha, where he had moved with his wife, Jayne, following his retirement in 2013. His diagnosis of fourth stage lung cancer last summer came as a shock and a surprise with very little warning. Now he will reunite with his parents, Ova and Lucille Nichols; and brothers, Daniel Richard Nichols and John Wayne Nichols, who predeceased him. Bob enjoyed visiting with his sisters, Rebecca Adrienne Soldate (Gene) and Elizabeth Lucille Nichols of Healdsburg, Calif., during his illness. Family was always a strength and a joy to Bob. His daughter, Emily Roberta Kahn (Ben) and his granddaughter, Adalae Rose Kahn of Beaverton, gave him comfort and support as did his stepchildren, Amber Louise Allen of Kansas City, Mo., and Aaron Paul Allen (Annie) of Omaha, Neb., along with their children, Aurora, Mason, Madison and Maxson whom Bob claimed as his own grandchildren. Nieces and nephews also received Bobs attention and gentle care which they returned to him. Bobs birth in Marysville, Calif., presaged a lifetime in the Sacramento, Calif., region which he loved. He graduated from Yuba City High School in 1964 and California State University at Sacramento with a B. A. in history in 1968. After serving as a personnel clerk in the U.S. Air Force, Bob returned to Sacramento for employment and found a home in the office supply and equipment business beginning as a store manager with Martyr & Curry in 1972. Bob changed companies as opportunities arose in a fast changing business. He learned to sell office products as an outside sales representative and retired from Sierra Office Products in 2013 after a total of 41 years in the business of which 12 years were at Sierra. Bob met his wife, Jayne (Copeland) at work. They shared a mutual interest in the industry and enjoyed Bobs winning trips to a dude ranch and Jackson Hole, Wyo. Bobs historical curiosity and hobby of photography came to good use on several trips to Hawaii and Europe as well. Religious faith was a linchpin in Bobs persona. In Sacramento, he worshipped at St. Marks United Methodist Church and served on many boards and committees over three decades of membership. He enjoyed the fellowship there. After moving to Aloha, Bob and Jayne joined a small, dynamic United Methodist congregation in Aloha where he served as a trustee and volunteered for the churchs food pantry, The Lords Cupboard. A memorial service and celebration of Bobs life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015, at Aloha United Methodist Church, 2270 198th Ave., Aloha, OR 97003. Bobs ashes were inurned in a mausoleum niche in Valley Memorial Park in Hillsboro. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in Bobs name to Aloha United Methodist Church or Heifer International, www.heifer.org, whose charitable work Bob supported with his Sharing Table of produce from his garden.

Bob was the greatest office supply rep, ever! He became our friend over the years, and it was great knowing a guy like him. Always cheerful and smiling. He was missed when he retired, and will truly never be forgotten...

I am deeply saddened to learn of Bob's passing today 12/7/15. He was a wonderful sales rep that I was fortunate to have known. He was always so happy and helpful when ordering supplies and would go out of his way to make sure the product was accurate and delivered on time. I will miss you Bob and my deepest condolences to his family.

I am so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. Bob was always my "go to" guy for office supplies. He was such a great man. Over the years we became friends, and kept in touch. I'm glad in the end he was able to be near his daughter and granddaughter. He was so proud of them, and sent me pictures regularly. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
