I knew Walter from working with him on the Blueback for many years. He was among the most reliable volunteers we've ever had. His dedication to the Blueback was legendary amongst us and he rarely turned us down if we needed him to come in on short notice.

He also enjoyed livening things up on the Blueback whenever he could. Frequently, he would make quite the entrance by coming down to the boat in his dress whites in the summer, or in his Russian naval officer's top coat, white scarf and fur lined ushanka in the winter. I will always picture him instead of Sean Connery in the opening scene of "The Hunt for Red October". He will be truly missed by all of us on the sub.

Thank-you and Das Vedanya Walter.
