VERY GOOD SCHOOL TEACHER ,I HAD HIM AT HOWARD MIDDLE SCHOOL SUMMER SCHOOL 1988. JONATHAN MCLEOD ORLANDO ,SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS
December 24, 2014
I was sitting here on December 24, 2014 listening to Christmas music and was just thinking about what a positive impact Mr. Rule had on my life. He had the enthusiasm of Zig Ziglar when it came to math.

His lessons were very interesting to many of us, focusing on practical applications of math to everyday life, from financing our first car to buying the best insurance policy.

Mr. Rule was a wonderful man who would find sponsors among his network of friends to fund an annual math contest, and awarding $100 to the winner (that would be over $500 today). I came in third, but Mr. Rule let me know I could have done better (and he was right).

He also taught us life lessons, from dealing with bullies to being good citizens. I recall one day, he saw me making out with a girl at the shopping mall and called us over to give us a little fatherly advice :)

A few years later, when I had earned a top secret clearance and had graduated from Spanish at the Defense Language Institute I had the opportunity to thank him for his lessons.

Today, I lead worldwide applied analytics for companies like eBay, Oracle, and British Airways and have enjoyed many opportunities in life as a result of Mr. Rule instilling in us a love of learning and for practical application of math in our lives.

In my son's school, the overwhelming majority of teachers are women, and that's unfortunate for kids without a father in their life. Male role models like Mr. Rule are so important to boys in particular that there should be a national initiative to fill the gap in public K-12 with men like Mr. Rule.

While your lessons helped pave the way for my successful career, the greatest reward is reflected in me being a better father to my 12-year old son Jack.

God bless you Mr. Rule, we love you and continue to be inspired by your example.
