I just read today that Shelby passed away... I cant believe it. Huge shock to me. And to think I always dreamed if I ever won the lottery id go over to shelby's facility in Nevada and buy the mustang I want the way I wanted it and have shelby deliver and hand me the keys to my new car. lol... that was my dream but I guess Shelby was meant for other things. Perhaps he's racing with other fallen racing legends now. My sympathies to Shelby's family and to his company.

I've been a Shelby Fan ever since I first heard about the now legendary Cobra over 45 years ago. I had the privilege of owning one of Carroll's original 427 Cobras, several Shelby Mustangs and Tigers. 30 years later, I own a 427 replica which I treasure, drive and enjoy immensely.
Carroll created a team that rocketed across the racing stage like a comet. It says a lot about the man and his team's creation that it is the most replicated car ever...by far. His impact on car lovers is immeasurable.
The man is gone, but his legend will live forever.
Carroll Shelby, Ken Miles, Dave MacDonald...there's a heck of a reunion going on.

I was really shooken when I found out of your death, not because of what you did just for the automotive industry, but for the many lives of children with your foundation RIP you will be greatly missed by all.
My heartfelt prayers and love go to the family and friends he leaves behind. I had the privledge of getting another member of NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida, when Mr. Shelby was here to autograph my friends book, which Mr. Shelby had written the "intro" in, even though Mr. Shelby wasn't in the greatest of health. Yet he took the time not only to autograph the book but had about a 15 minute conversation with him and asked about his "Shelby Kit Car" was coming along. Mr. Shelby never forgot where he came from, nor how much he is respected, with his God given "talent" and a wonderful person. {My friend and son had tried for about 5 hours, just for the autograph, as he had brought his book there that day before I got involved.} I believe God puts us where we need to be and Mr. Shelby is smiling on all of us from Heaven.
My friend was not only a "Happy and thankful person," not only with the autograph, but with meeting and talking with him. I get thanked every year from my friend and fellow NHRA, now with the new name,

My father worked for Carroll Shelby from 1962 to 1969 at the Venice, CA plant as a sheetmetal worker, fabricating the awesome Cobra bodies. That has been a source of pride for me throughout the years.

I just found some old 1956 snapshots of Carroll at the Shreveport Sports Car Club races at the Mansfield airport. He won in a Ferrari setting a record there. He is also in B.F. My parents published a little rag called Road & Track so I always knew Carroll, or Shel as i often heard him referred to. I went to LeMans in 1966 when he asked me to be a gopher,I was 14. A year or two later he tried to give me one of those Cobras' that he couldn't sell ,but my father said no way...16 yr old driving that ! We had lost Ken Miles recently and it hurt us all. I had the pleasure of working for Shelby Automobiles in the late 80's and early 90's as one of the directors. Carroll came into my office one day and told me he was going to get a transplant. I'll skip his joke here. I 'm glad he got so many extra years he thought he would never have. I'm glad I had over 50 years of knowing him. My heart goes out to family , he will be missed .

Mr. Shelby was my hero. He was a legend. As a current owner of 1964½ Mustang and 2009 Mustang GT, I always wanted to own a Shelby GT500, but haven't made it yet. My boyfriend is a proud owner of a Dodge Viper. We both have admired Mr. Shelby for many years. I shudder at the thought of the automotive industry without Mr. Shelby's creative genius. There are still tons of us who want to drive HP. I challenge the automotive industry to keep HP and style in the memory of Mr. Carroll Shelby. Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal. The Shelby Family have my deepest sympathy.

Thanks for the memories. To own a Shelby was on my husband's bucket list. We got in in April 2009 - GT 500. Next we had to go to Vegas just to see the museum and the cars. We did that it January 2011. We didn't get to meet Carroll but felt like we knew him. Hope his ideas live on for a long time to come.

We have certainly lost a legend. I had a 70 yellow Mach 1 mustang with Shelby chasis. I loved that car. My mom sold it to a cousin and it was on cover on mustang Magazine. Back in the seventies I had a friend who had purchased a used Shelby GT 350 (one of the first hundred) and I was lucky enough to have use of it. What a gas! Carroll Shelby was a true genius and we can only hope that future enthusiasts will be able to appreciate his work.

I remember standing in line w/my young son, at a Shelby American gathering in Charlotte over 20 years ago.. waiting to get Carrol's autograph on a poster.. he was doing this in 100 deg. heat.. for hours.. just for the fans..

Carroll Shelby was the best. The closest I ever got to a Shelby was when in Las Vegas I rented a Hurst Shelby for a week when I returned it there was not too much rubber left on the tires. It was the most exciting car I ever drove. Carroll has been my idol since the 60's. He will be deeply missed.

Back in the 80's, I had a Dodge Shelby Turbo. I met him through the Madison Ave. Sports Car Driving and Chowder Society and was having problems with the Turbo. He kindly came over, went over the car and told me what needed to be fixed. I will never forget him. He was an awesome man. Deepest condolences to the family.

I met Carroll for the first time in 1992 at the western regional chili cookoff in Rosamond,Ca. He came up behind my wife and shocked he with a hug.He hadn't seen her in a number of years and that's when he introduced himself. We talked for about an hour about everything in racing and friends. It turned out that he was friends with my father-in-law "Kong" Jackson. I couldn't believe the wealth of knowledge this man had and the love he had for it and life and family.
He was truly a one of a kind man and I'll never ever forget the time I had shared with him. When I told my wife of his passing yesterday she was so so sad,he was like her 2nd father. We will miss him dearly.

In the early 1970's when I moved to Southern California I took a brown bag package of his Chili Mix that ended with the words 'and may God help you' as it was suppose to be HOT, and decoupaged it on a beautiful piece of wood and put it in a collection on my dining room wall - not too long after that they didn't put the words 'and may God help you' on them any more. Wonderful chili, wonderful memories, wonderful American - God bless his family.
