I just found this! I was trying to get back in touch and am so sorry. I will always remember Jody's sweet, positive spirit. A very special soul. Debbie Newlan (formerly Stewart)
Jody was one of the most amazing people I've ever met in my life. A man of great intelligence who despite his affliction managed to live a life of quiet grace and dignity. Not only did he possess extraordinary courage, something even the most jaded of people could see, but he always had time for other people, whether friend, family or stranger, for a stranger to Jody would very often mean a friend in the making. That awesome courage he had came out of a boundless heart. As far as his family and the multitude of friends he made are concerned, Jody truly made our world a far better place by simply sharing his thoughts and his life with us. I feel so fortunate to have been his friend. I will miss him dearly.
Dear Joe, Mary, and Priscilla,
Jody was a bright star and a gentle soul--a rare combination--and he touched and changed everyone he knew. I am only one of his many friends, and we share your loss.
Rob Eaton (friend from Vanderbilt University)
I wish to express my deepest condolences to you, Joe, Mary and Teeny. I am deeply shaken and saddened by Jody's passing. He was like the brother I never had. We had many great times together and I will miss him sorely. His incredible courage in the face of overwhelming adversity is in keeping with his outstanding character and a fitting tribute to his exemplary life.
Jody you shall always be an inspiration to everyone who met you. You never had anything bad to say about anyone. You loved everyone and they loved you in return. It is said that God only burdens those people that can handle these burdens. Well, He chose wisely my friend. Everyone who knew you admired you for your kindness and courage. You shall be greatly missed. Your friend always, Rick.
Jody, I'll always think of you along with the years we spent at Vanderbilt, playing tennis and doing the things that young men of that era did. You fought a long and brave battle. May you rest in peace, old friend. Les
You will always live in our hearts and prayers.
It was an honor and privilege to care for Jodi. He was an amazing man,and the bravest person I have ever known. I miss you my friend...<3
Dear Mr. Guernsey, I wish I could express the sorrow that I feel for you and your family. My heart goes out to you. May God give you strength during this difficult time.
"You watched the ball until the very end. Your courage and strength were an example for all. I will remember you as long as I live."
Will miss your loving concern for your father and sisters above yourself; your tremendous strength, courage, and most of all, the dignity in which you handled your progressive illness. Jody, you are the bravest man I have ever met and you will remain in our hearts forever.
