Singing on Oscar Brand's radio show some 50 years ago was a fantastic experience for a teenager. Then, Oscar graciously let me help him develop his benefit supporting Sing Out magazine at the Cooper Union Great Hall. Everyone in the folk music world including Woody Guthrie was there to support Oscar's mission. These are marvelous memories to be treasured. Thank you, Oscar.

My sympathies to Mr. Brand's family. He will be fondly remembered. My own father introduced my sister, brother and me to Mr. Brand's music in the '60s and I consider the albums among my cherished possessions. Someone who made so many people smile surely has a special place in heaven. If there are angels, I know they're looking forward to making a new kind of music now that Oscar Brand has arrived.

"Our passengers will please refrain from talking while the train
Is in the station, darling, I love you. "
I first heard those and other immortal lyrics from Osxar, ca. 1956.
I'll cherish always these memories. Thanks, Oscar.

Back in the late 1950's early 1960's Mr. Brand made several guest appearances on Sonny Fox's Sunday morning kids' show, "Wonderama" on WNEW channel 5. Performing a few of his wonderful numbers while giving his young audience an introduction to the folk genre, untold countless boomers have grown up no doubt studying and appreciating music thanks to him. Offering my deepest condolences to his family until a joyous reunion.

So sorry for your loss. What a good long life Oscar enjoyed. So many cannot say the same. He was one of those the Bible call especially strong. Ps. 90:10

Sending my sincere condolences to Oscar's family. especially Jeannie, my sweet, dear friend. I was lucky enough to see Oscar perform many times, and he always brightened my day. He had so many talents. No matter how old someone is when they die, family and friends still grieve and hurt. He will be remembered in our hearts and in playing his songs. He is one of the leaders of the folk angel choir now. May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.

many of my fondest memories of the folk scene as a teen growing up in the late 60s was listening to his bawdy and funny sea songs....and seeing him perform at a few folk fests along the way. He was truly one of a kind...and will be missed.
