David was a dedicated Parks Canada professional and an exceptionally fine human being. I admired him and I'm sorry to hear of his passing.

I am very sad to learn of the passing of Dave Lohnes (Mr.Lohnes as I knew him).
I was a friend of the Lohnes family in Ottawa through out the '70's and sporadically in the '80's when I spent my summers there as a kid from Michigan.
I found Dave to be like a father to me, always including me in their family events, or just setting an extra spot at the table for dinner.
My heart goes out to June and the family for your loss. Always remember the great times you had together for those memories will see you through.
May you rest in peace.

Dave Lohnes a été un gestionnaire important de Parcs Canada. J'ai grandement apprécié son implication dans le domaine de la Conservation et de la protection des Parcs nationaux canadiens.

Dave delighted in people and nature and in hard work. During our many years at Parks Canada HQ, I and many others cherished Dave for his leadership and for his ready laugh. Both the Parks field and his family gave him pride.

Dave was my first boss at Parks Canada. He was newly arrived from the east coast to take on the head of natural resource conservation in Ottawa. And i was one of quite a few new eager beavers who were keen to make a contribution. He was a great guy and loved being the national "chief warden".

David was a favourite of our family ever since he accompanied our parents on part of their honeymoon 75 years ago. Perhaps it was that canoe/camping trip in the wilderness of Kedge that inspired his second career with Parks Canada.
David was a god-send in taking care of Roy and Claire and their affairs (financial!). With no involvement, Dad was able to remain in a relaxed relationship with his brother. Both Mom & Dad loved being with David and June, visiting their home just "up the river" (Brockville?).
I'm so glad Marilyn gave me reason to visit this past summer: the delivery of Lunenburg blood sausage. Chatting together, I had to think how much we all stay the same people as we age -- just our outsides slip and get rearranged.
Remembering you with deep affection,
Joanne

Dear June and family, Marilyn emailed, then phoned me (David's first cousin) to let us know about David's passing. Tom and I were saddened to hear this news, especially after David overcame his previous battle when Marilyn flew up to be with him and you. Tom and I were happy to reconnect with David and you
when Marilyn stayed with us in Almonte. We enjoyed our luncheon and chat at the Cafe Postino. May you be comforted at this time and holdfast to David's memories, stories and photos.

Dave was my boss working in the Resource Conservation Division at the Ottawa HQ of Parks Canada. He was the best boss I ever had in my working career and despite his military chain of command background, he knew how to get a group of 10 to 15 bright young eager beavers to get the job done and relish new challenges without ever issuing an "order".
Sue and I had the pleasure to join Dave and June for lunch in Ottawa in the fall of 2016. After a two-decade gap, it was as though we lived next door.
He tackled his last challenge with great dignity. Our thoughts go out to June and all the family and are sorry we cannot be in Ottawa to say a final farewell.
