BOTTING, Gerald "Gerry"
Major (Retired) 2-PPCLI
Peacefully at the Perley & Rideau Veterans' Health Centre on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at the age of 87 after a long life of dedicated public service. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Joan. He will be fondly remembered by sons Brian (Julie), Geof (Sian) and grandchildren Jim, Brianna, Brittany and Connor. Gerry joined the Canadian Army in 1949 and served with 2 PPCLI in Korea. He fought in the Battle of Kapyong where his Battalion received the U.S. Presidential Unit Citation. His military career continued after Korea as a member of the Canadian Guards. He served on United Nations peacekeeping missions and upon his retirement from the military embarked upon a career in the civil service. After retirement, he continued to be active in the community, including serving as President of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #97 and spent many and happy years in Prescott, ON. His many years of dedication to Canada were reciprocated by the wonderful care he received at the Perley & Rideau Veterans' Health Centre and the Department of Veterans' Affairs. Friends are invited to visit the Sacred Space of the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Ave. (east of Vanier parkway) Friday, June 5, 2015 after 10 a.m. The Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. followed by Reception and Interment with Military Honours at the National Military Cemetery of the Canadian Forces at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Perley & Rideau Foundation or the True Patriot Love Foundation.

To the family of Gerry and Joan - my sincere sympathies to all of you. I knew your parents very well as I saw them together at Sunday mass at the Perley. I used to get them lunch on Sunday in the Gatineau wing and then periodically, I would take Gerry back to Rideau wing after mass. They were both very special people. Darlene
